Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 709

The father of the boy was a burly six-footer who had relied on his size to intimidate Chris. He couldn’t believe he’d been wiped out in a blink of an eye.

"You... let go... Damn it!" Realizing Chris was clearly a trained professional, the man had to swallow his pride. "Let go! Let's call the cops!"

The intense scene drew a crowd instantly. The boy was wailing in terror, and the mother was hitting and cursing at Chris while pulling out her phone to call the cops.

Giselle, who had not spoken yet, finally stepped in to stop the escalation.

She whispered to Chris, "Enough. Don't make a scene. Let him go."

Then, she turned to explain to the boy's mother.

"This gentleman is my assistant. Your son almost crashed into me just now, and I am pregnant. It was a dangerous situation. My assistant overreacted, but since your son isn't hurt, let's just take a step back and drop it."

"You're pregnant?" The mother looked skeptically at Giselle's young, beautiful face and slim figure. "I think you're faking it! You two just bullied a kid and got violent in public. We are calling the cops! Don't you run!"

Giselle rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Ma'am, get your facts straight. Riding a scooter inside a hospital is unsafe to begin with. The fact is, he almost hit me.

"Your husband threw the first punch, while we acted in self-defense. No one was actually hurt, and there are surveillance cameras everywhere. Do you really want to waste your time?"

Hearing this, the mother had to back down. She shot Giselle a dirty look and turned away, muttering under her breath, "Bringing a male assistant to a prenatal checkup... acting crazy in public... I bet the kid in your belly belongs to your assistant."

Giselle heard the disgusting remark but did not bother retorting. Getting worked up was not worth risking the baby's safety.

Finally, Chris let go of the man and followed Giselle toward the exit.

"No." He answered in a low, strained voice, forcing himself to be patient. "They are all dead."

"They?" Giselle was surprised to hear that.

"Yeah. My wife and son." His voice dropped until it was barely audible. "When my wife died, she was five months pregnant with our second child."

Hearing him speak so calmly about such a tragic past left Giselle speechless for a moment.

She apologized, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked."

"It's fine. It's in the past," replied Chris emotionlessly.
