The triage nurse, seeing that Giselle's complexion remained stable and she showed no outward signs of distress, directed them to the obstetrics and gynecology department for an examination instead.
Considering that would mean a long wait, Chris grew anxious. All of a sudden, he slammed his hand on the desk in front of the nurse. "We're getting it done right here! Her situation is urgent! Get her registered!"
Startled by Chris' domineering tone, the nurse snapped back, "Do you have any common sense? I've already told you—there are life-and-death cases ahead of you. If she's stable, get her to the obstetrics and gynecology department. Don't you understand how this works?"
Chris' true nature burst out in an instant. He grabbed the young nurse by the collar and threatened, "Register her now, or I'll kill you!"
Deathly pale and trembling with visible fight, the nurse lost her composure entirely and screamed.
A security guard nearby rushed over, shouting at Chris and reaching out to seize him. But before the man's hand could connect, Chris lashed out, kicking him squarely in the chest and sending him to the floor.
Seeing the situation spiral out of control, Giselle had no choice but to step in. She apologized and explained gently, "I'm sorry. This gentleman is my assistant. He just panicked and acted rashly. I'm pregnant and was just bitten by a feral dog. I need an immediate examination—it's really urgent. Could you please give me a number first? I'll pay for any damages afterward, okay?"
Seeing how humble and apologetic she was, another nurse registered her as a priority.
Chris couldn't care about the consequences of his rashness and quickly helped Giselle to see the doctor.
After she underwent a series of examinations, the doctor told her that the fetus was currently stable. However, the physical and emotional trauma had taken a toll; she was diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage and would need strict bed rest to ensure the pregnancy continued safely.
Hearing the words, Giselle felt a wave of relief followed immediately by a sharp pang of dread. She was thankful the baby was still safe and under medical care, yet haunted by the uncertainty—wondering if things might take a turn for the worse and if the miscarriage was merely delayed rather than prevented.
She lay on the hospital bed and inhaled oxygen for a while. Whenever she closed her eyes, her mind replayed the terrifying scene of those two feral dogs lunging at her. Her heart continued to hammer against her ribs, a frantic rhythm that made her terrified even to think.
