Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 758

Giselle froze when she saw the long-absent man. She rose a little awkwardly and pretended to be calm as she greeted him. "Come in and have a seat."

Gideon didn't sit after coming in. He causally swept his gaze around the office before settling on Giselle's face. Then, he looked at her pregnant belly. "Are you doing okay?"

Giselle instinctively touched her belly. "Everything's been fine."

"Health-wise? Have you had any more episodes since then?" he asked again.

"No."

"That's good."

He gave a faint, wry smile. "It looks like Donovan takes good care of you. I've got nothing to worry about. I'm really happy to see you living so blissfully."

Giselle could detect the bitterness beneath his words, and for a moment, she didn't know how to respond.

"How many months is the baby now? Has the pregnancy been tough?" Gideon changed the subject.

"It's fine. Six months." Giselle recalled what Zachary had said last time and added, "You're about to be a big brother too."

Gideon paused slightly. As the blood relation between himself and Donovan sank in, he couldn't help feeling both amused and annoyed.

He had never been able to accept the generational gap, nor did he want to admit that he and Donovan were uncle and nephew by blood. But hearing Giselle say it out loud left him no choice but to accept it.

"Great," he said with a self-mocking laugh. "I'm almost 30, and someone's still giving me a little brother or sister. Lucky me!"

Giselle was monetarily lost for words, so she steered the topic back to him. "More importantly, you're going to be a dad, right? I heard Marselle is four or five months along too. Are all her prenatal checkups going smoothly?"

"It's fine." He clearly didn't want to answer the question.

"I heard your wedding got postponed to next year again? Are you planning to hold the banquet after the baby's born?"

"Why do you keep saying things like that?"

Giselle felt awful listening to him. She picked up her cup and took a sip of water. "If you marry her and truly live well, then I'll wish you happiness. Just don't drown in self-pity. You're about to become a father, so try to be a little more mature! It's not like we're life and death apart. It'll be fine to get along as friends and family in the future."

To someone who couldn't be with the person they love, "I wish you happiness" was the hardest thing to hear.

Gideon's mood didn't improve. But after all this time, he no longer had any right to reveal his feelings to Giselle. In the end, he simply looked at her longingly one last time.

"Giselle, even though you never loved me, every second I spent with you was still happiness. Thank you."

Giselle didn't respond. She turned slightly away, avoiding his gaze, a dull ache settling in her chest.

"Goodbye."
