Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 769

At dinner, once they were back home that night, Giselle asked Donovan, "Weren't you arguing with the board again today? Why are you back this early?"

"Arguing?" Donovan looked a bit puzzled.

"Yeah," Giselle said, matter-of-factly. "I stopped by the company to see you when I was on a walk this afternoon. When I reached your office, Chris told me you were talking with some major shareholders, and that the situation was really tense. He said it was best not to go in and disturb you.

"I didn't want to get caught in the crossfire, so I just left."

Donovan was stunned for a moment. Then he snorted, answering simply, "I wasn't arguing with anyone. I just ran into a difficult female official from the National Drug Administration and got myself into a sticky situation."

"Difficult? Was she giving you a hard time?" Thinking of Anne's court case, Giselle was afraid of any slip that might draw attention from the authorities, and she suddenly grew a bit nervous.

"She wasn't exactly giving me a hard time," Donovan ate calmly, then said, "You might get mad at me if I tell you the truth."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, she took a fancy to my good looks and wanted some… 'bonuses' from me."

Giselle almost choked on her soup.

But deciding not to read too much into it, she smiled and even joked, "Well, you should've said yes! She must be somebody pretty powerful if you had to take the time out to entertain her. If you'd treated her well, it would've been great for Kane Group!"

Donovan shot her a look. "You're just going to pimp me out like that?"

Giselle chuckled lightly, then asked, "So did you agree, or not?"
