Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 770

Donovan didn't interfere with the verdict against Anne. After all, a sentence of more than 20 years was enough. But Giselle still felt a lingering sense of unease. The case had only gone through the first trial—there would still be a first appeal, then a second appeal. Each round would drag on for ages.

In the end, Renee would probably file a judicial review against the final appeal itself, so it was unlikely that Anne would actually be behind bars in the next year or two. No one could tell what might happen during that time.

But she didn't worry for long. She believed that Donovan must have prepared everything meticulously beforehand, with every link watertight. Otherwise, the judge wouldn't have passed judgment in their favor.

For now, the most important thing was to wait for the child in her belly to be born. As long as the baby arrived safely, no storm that could follow would matter.

On the third day after the judgment had been handed down, Donovan went to work as usual. Giselle, still weighed down by her pregnancy, stayed home to rest.

Just then, Heath came in to report, "Mrs. Kane, someone is here to see you. Would you like me to let her in?"

Giselle was lying on the couch, absentmindedly scrolling on her phone while nibbling on some fruit.

"Who is it?" she asked. "Don't let them in if they're a stranger."

"It's…" Heath paused. "It's not a stranger. It's someone you know very well, ma'am."

"Who exactly?"

No sooner had the words left Giselle's mouth than a commotion erupted outside, accompanied by a woman's sharp shriek. The next moment, Renee, blocked by a bodyguard, was forcing her way into the house maniacally.

Giselle immediately rose from the couch on guard and told Heath, "Throw her out. Don't let her come near me!"

"Stop!" Giselle barked warily, hand over her belly. "Stay right there. Don't come a step closer!" As she spoke, she told Heath and the bodyguard to keep a tight watch on Renee.

"You don't have to be so guarded with me," Renee said, though she didn't move closer. She finally dropped the preamble. "Giselle, I'm here to beg you. Let's call it a truce, alright? We're family, after all. Look, I'm your stepmother—"

"One more word of nonsense from you and you're getting thrown out!" Giselle cut her off again, impatient.

"I…" Renee wiped her eyes, choking up. "I actually came because of Anne's case. I know you won't agree to let her go no matter how I plead, so I want to make a deal…"

"What deal?"

"If you ask Donovan to withdraw the case and release Anne, I'll turn myself in and tell the truth about how I framed your grandparents back then. I'll accept the punishment and go to prison, and our grudge will end there. How about that?"
