Giselle was certain that Chris hadn't followed her to Valanthea just for a confrontation; he was there to drag her back.
And the only reason he had yet to execute his plan was simply that he hadn't raked in enough cash. Or perhaps, he hadn't found the best moment to strike.
If he could be ruthless enough to get his former accomplice, Anne, thrown into prison, what else wouldn't he do?
Perhaps he'd already laid a trap for Donovan when they weren't looking, so now all he had to do was wait for Donovan to walk right into it.
The longer Giselle thought about it, the worse she felt. At this point, she felt as though she was seconds away from asphyxiating.
She stared Chris down and said, "We've had six months' worth of 'peace' between us, so we're even. We were never from the same world, and nothing would've come out of our 'relationship.' Your best option right now is to leave quietly before Donovan finds out. Leave as fast as you can.
"There'll be nothing between us. It would be as if we never even met!"
Chris' eyes dimmed upon hearing her resolute words. There wasn't even a shred of reluctance when she said them.
He couldn't help but recall their time together for the past six months. She hadn't known who he was, so she'd trusted him and treated him like a close friend. She'd allowed him to come and go as he pleased.
But now...
Chris shoved all his complicated emotions into a bottle. He didn't even flinch in the face of her rejection, seemingly as cold as ever.
After all, his world was painted in the darkest shade of black imaginable. He'd experienced pain and bloodshed like no one ever had. He'd seen the monstrous side humanity had to offer. So, he wouldn't possibly lose control over a change like this.
"I said I wouldn't hurt him." Chris turned slightly, his voice hoarse. "Everyone will be safe as long as you keep this between us and don't breathe a word to him."
"Fine." Giselle forced herself to be patient as she didn't want to hurt the baby. "So when exactly will you leave for good?"
