Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 785

The second Chris answered, Giselle lowered her voice and coldly demanded, "Where are you?"

"At work," came the equally low reply.

"What do you mean? Why haven't you left yet? When exactly are you leaving?"

Chris fell silent for a few seconds before saying, "We'll talk later." Then, he hung up on her.

Giselle became furious when she heard the resounding click before collapsing against the couch, her mind spiraling once more.

She wasn't worried about her own safety. If anything, she'd been worrying about Donovan.

She had witnessed Orin's cruelty and bloodshed with her own eyes and knew full well just what he was capable of; she knew that he could easily eliminate Donovan if he really wanted to.

Her grip on her phone tightened. She had considered calling the cops on him.

Yet, what was she supposed to say once she did? His current identity was that of a foreign citizen. Even if he'd committed crimes in the past, he had done them on foreign soil. So, how could the local police get involved?

Besides, he hadn't committed any crimes here, and his entry documents for Valanthea were legal. Donovan had even pulled strings to help him obtain a work visa valid for several years.

Thus, the most the police would do was investigate him and deport him upon discovering the crimes he'd committed on foreign soil. Still, it would undoubtedly be a lengthy investigation, and she'd likely need to waddle all the way to the precinct for questioning.

That was why she couldn't come to a decision.

She even considered discussing it with Gideon.

However, she was immediately reminded of Gideon's hair-trigger temper and his current relationship troubles with Marselle. She had no one else to confide in because she also didn't want to bother others with something like this.

The reason he hadn't said this over the phone that morning was that he was worried that their calls ran the risk of being recorded, which would result in Donovan connecting the dots.

He used to be in charge of the villa's security, so he knew every surveillance device in the vicinity like the back of his hand. As a result, he also knew that this garden was a blind spot for both cameras and bugs. That was why he'd come to meet her here.

"You'd better stop stalling!" Giselle let her impatience slip when she got an actual time frame. She couldn't wait another second for him to leave, much less endure another week.

"Orin Sontara," she couldn't help blurting out his real name as she warned. "We aren't at Gold Delta anymore. You can't do what you want, when you want it! If you dare lay a finger on Donovan—"

"I won't touch him!" Chris abruptly cut her off before she could finish. Irritation appeared in his usually aloof gaze. "What makes you think I'd hurt him?"

"Because you want to get back at me!" Giselle snapped, unable to bear him dancing around the truth any longer.
