In addition to paying the bills, Donovan specifically instructed the medical staff to take extra care of Chris. He arranged for the best private room available and asked the nurses to help hire two full-time caretakers.
Although he had arranged everything perfectly, he still felt incredibly gloomy on the drive home. The conflict from earlier that night, and especially the memory of the car slamming into Chris, weighed heavily on his mind.
Chris was just an assistant. Normally, even if an employee was injured protecting Donovan, there was no need for Donovan to personally wait at the hospital for two hours.
At most, he would usually send someone else to visit and offer some financial compensation to settle the matter. He certainly would not let it weigh on his conscience.
However, when it came to Chris, Donovan realized that he cared a little too much.
It was very late when he finally returned home, and Giselle was already asleep. He waited until the next morning to tell her about the car accident.
Giselle did not feel good hearing about such an incident.
"Since he is injured so badly, will he be able to make a full recovery?" she asked.
Donovan replied, "He might need to stay in the hospital for a month."
"A month?" Giselle's eyes widened in shock. "Does he really need that long?"
In other words, Chris could not leave immediately. He would be stuck here for at least another month to recover from his injuries.
Donovan spoke casually. "He has broken bones. A month isn't even enough to fully heal. It will take half a year for a complete recovery. Regardless, it is good that he won't be disabled."
Giselle fell into deep thought.
Hearing that Chris would not die or be paralyzed was a relief, but she vaguely suspected that Chris had intentionally used a self-inflicted injury to gain an advantage.
Chris had walked through storms of blood and violence his entire life. It would be entirely normal for him to use physical pain as a tactic to delay his departure. She was just worried about his ultimate goal.
