Giselle was stumped by Chris' question.

She thought back to how she had been sold to that place. It had started with local abductors who wanted revenge on Gideon. After being passed around through various hands, she had somehow ended up in the den of vice where Orin worked. She didn't even know how she got there.

"Does it matter if you were good to me or not?" Giselle recalled the bloody scenes from the past. She still had psychological trauma from those events.

She questioned Orin aggressively. "You know exactly how many dirty things you have done.

"I don't hate you for myself. I hate you for those innocent girls. A monster like you should have gone to hell long ago. You have the nerve to disguise yourself and come here? Do you think this country is as lawless as the place you came from?"

Hearing these fierce accusations, Chris' expression did not change much, but he felt a heavy weight in his chest.

He let out a muffled grunt. "I didn't expect that you would see me as a monster."

He wanted to tell her about the helplessness of the first half of his life. However, the fact remained that he had done many sinful things. No matter how much he said, he would never get a shred of forgiveness from the woman standing in front of him.

He simply offered a brief explanation. "The place you were brought to was not my territory. I was just guarding it for someone else. I took money to do a job.

"You have no idea what I went through later just to keep you alive."

Giselle was stunned for a moment.

But soon, she questioned him again. "The first day I arrived, I saw you order your men to slit a girl's throat. You made an example of her for all of us to see. How do you explain that? If Donovan knew that you—"

"Shut up!" Hearing her use Donovan's name, Chris snapped.

"That girl's father was involved in the kidnapping and murder of my son. Is that explanation enough?" He roared at her in a low voice, his eyes turning red.

Giselle shivered all over. She looked at him in disbelief.

Chris never wanted to bring this up to anyone. However, facing Giselle's repeated interrogation, he finally had no choice but to speak of those unbearable memories.
