Giselle was caught off guard because she had never expected Donovan to give such an expensive item to a man.
If he had given it to relatives like Ethan or Zachary, she wouldn't have batted an eye. However, giving it to a bodyguard like Chris was baffling.
She was only stunned for a few seconds before she placed the box back on the nightstand.
"Since he gave it to you personally, just keep it," Giselle said indifferently. "Why would you ask me to return it? He hates it when people return his gifts. It shows a lack of respect and makes him feel looked down upon."
Chris fell silent.
"He cares about you so much, so I assume you know what to do in return," Giselle added with a pointed reminder.
She didn't waste any more words on him and turned to leave the hospital room.
After walking out, she got into the back seat of her car with her bodyguards following close behind. Despite leaving the room, she couldn't calm the turmoil in her mind.
The car was halfway to her destination, and her mind was a mess of agitation when her phone rang.
She took it out and saw it was her best friend, Vivienne.
Usually, she and Vivienne just chatted briefly on messaging apps. They rarely saw each other in person because they were both too busy. They hadn't been in touch for nearly two months, so she had no idea what Vivienne had been up to lately.
"Hello, Vivi," Giselle answered the call.
"Hey, Selle," Vivienne asked cheerfully over the phone. "What are you busy with? Are you free right now? I want to see you."
"Now?"
"Yes. It is just about dinnertime. Come over to my place for dinner. I have the housekeeper cooking already," Vivienne urged her enthusiastically.
Not only was the house luxurious, but when Giselle arrived at the door, a butler came out to greet her.
"Selle!" Vivienne walked out with a beaming smile.
She enthusiastically linked her arm with Giselle's. "Look at how big your belly is. Be careful. The housekeeper just mopped the floor, so it is a bit slippery. Come on, let's go inside and sit."
"Why are you acting so formal?" Giselle felt that Vivienne's enthusiasm was a little strange. They were best friends who told each other everything, yet this excessive warmth gave her goosebumps.
It wasn't just the enthusiastic reaction; she noticed that Vivienne had become even prettier than before. Her skin was several shades paler, though Giselle wondered if she had gotten some cosmetic injections.
Giselle looked around the decoration of the large living room as Vivienne supported her.
"By the way, where is your son?" Giselle asked after sitting down on the couch.
