Giselle fell silent.
"All these years, you've been flaunting your superiority in front of me at every turn!" Vivienne screamed. "You lend me a little money, help me out a bit, and then casually make jokes at my expense.
"Am I just supposed to be your backdrop for life? You rely on putting me down to feel superior! I've had enough. I've wanted to slap you for a long time!
"Isn't it just because of the genes your parents gave you that you're prettier than I am? Isn't it just because you're better at seducing men that you have everything you do?
"You think you're so badass? Besides sleeping with men, what the hell can you actually do? What right do you have to talk about IQ in front of me?"
The anger in Giselle's eyes turned to shock. She froze.
As Vivienne shouted, her eyes reddened and her voice choked. "I never told you, but I've been enduring you all these years! Call it jealousy if you want, but I can't stand you getting everything by sleeping around and then standing on your high horse, criticizing every life choice I make!"
Giselle's head buzzed. She drew a deep breath. "None of that is a reason for you to take Renee's side and betray me. Even if you had actually slapped me to vent, you shouldn't have schemed against me like this. This is a matter of principle. The moment you took that step, it meant that all these years of friendship were worthless to you."
"Don't give me that crap!" Vivienne dodged the point, accusing her aggressively. "You and Donovan were never good people to begin with. My recording today wasn't scheming. You were the ones who framed others first! What right do you have to call what I did a betrayal?"
Giselle fell silent. Seeing Vivienne's inability to tell right from wrong, she felt a chill run through her.
Vivienne felt utterly unfamiliar, from head to toe, inside and out—a complete stranger.
Was this still the best friend she had poured her heart out to for over a decade?
