Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 825

Arriving at the hospital meant another period of agonizing waiting.

Donovan paced the corridor in silence. He couldn't wrap his mind around what he had done or what he should do next; his initial anxiety had hardened into a hollow numbness. Finally, after hours of silence, the emergency doctor emerged.

"Mr. Thompson has regained consciousness," the doctor informed him, his tone grave. "He is out of immediate danger, but his injuries are severe. There is significant damage to his internal organs alongside multiple external wounds. He must remain in the ICU for close observation."

Donovan felt his nerves slacken slightly when he heard Chris would pull through.

In the days that followed, he learned the full story behind the 100 million dollars from Giselle. The truth made his mood even darker. He canceled his entire schedule and spiraled, spending one night getting completely drunk, alone in the silence of his home.

On the fourth day, Heath reported that Chris' vital signs were stable. He was out of danger and could eat and speak normally. Donovan couldn't resist going to the hospital again.

He entered the ward.

Chris lay motionless, his head and limbs swathed in gauze. He looked shattered—far worse than he had after the car accident.

Donovan froze, unable to bring himself to approach the bed. He stood with one hand shoved in his pocket, staring blankly at the man he had broken. His chest tightened as the memory of the brutal beating flashed through his mind.
