"So, did you come to Valanthea with Anne initially?" Donovan asked the question after a long silence.

"Yes." Chris had no intention to deny anything related to Anne. But he chose to omit the fact that he was in Valanthea for Giselle. He simply fabricated a believable excuse. "Anne said she would give me a sum of money to approach you as a bodyguard. The goal was to help her take revenge."

Donovan's face darkened when he heard this. "Did you kill Benjamin?"

"No."

Chris finally told him the truth. The person who killed Benjamin was a terminally ill cancer patient hired by Anne.

The patient had a previous conflict with Benjamin, so he had a motive. He also wanted to leave over a million dollars for his family after his death, so he agreed to do the dirty work for money.

However, Chris admitted that he was the mystery man who dumped the body at the wedding venue.

Donovan felt heavy-hearted when he learned the truth about Benjamin's death. The butler had died because of him. If not for his feud with Anne, an innocent life would not have been involved.

While Donovan was distracted by the details of Benjamin's death, Chris stared at the ceiling and continued to mutter to himself.

"You know what happened later... You completely won me over. I decided that being loyal to you was more worthwhile."

Donovan remained silent.
