Chris waited from morning until 2:00 pm. He still did not see Kori or Billy enter the country.

A bad feeling grew in his gut.

Sure enough, he received a call from Kori just after 3:00 pm.

Kori snorted on the phone before Chris could even speak. "Orin, the original plan is canceled. I am not bringing your son to Valanthea. If you want to save him, then wire the money to my account immediately."

"You..." Cold sweat broke out on Chris' forehead. "What do you mean? Didn't we agree to trade in Valanthea?"

Kori sneered. "Don't take me for a fool. There are too many uncertainties in Valanthea. I'm not going to bring your son there for a trade just because you promised me 500 million dollars.

"I don't want to waste time with you. Wire 50 million dollars to my account by today. Otherwise, you will receive a photo of your son with a missing hand tomorrow."

He hung up before Chris could say another word. When Chris tried to call back, the phone was turned off.

The sudden change left Chris frozen. He clutched his phone as his heart pounded violently. He used to be in this business, so he knew exactly what Kori meant.

Kori intended to use torture as leverage to force him to send money endlessly. If he refused, Kori would chop off Billy's hand or use other methods of torture.

Chris felt like he was suffocating when he thought of that terrible outcome.

If he entered the country openly as a tourist and brought Billy onto Valanthean soil, he would be unable to use violence to enforce the deal. He would be at a severe disadvantage.

Keeping Billy in the lawless zone where he operated allowed him to do whatever he wanted. It allowed him to maintain control and force Chris to pay up.

His limbs were turning cold.
