Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 835

Donovan felt his heart sink at these parting words.

After a few final seconds of eye contact, he replied in a low voice, "Fine. Go then."

"Goodbye," Chris said, taking Billy's hand and walking out of the border checkpoint. He walked aimlessly toward the end of the road without looking back.

His steps were heavy and slow at first. Then they became determined and faster.

Donovan's gaze followed Chris' retreating figure. He watched blankly as Chris moved further away.

Countless images flashed through his mind. The longer he looked, the harder it became to breathe. He could not help but start walking after Chris.

Donovan stopped after a few steps. He bent down, picked up a small pebble from the ground, and threw it directly at Chris. It hit him right on the back.

Chris paused for a moment but did not look back. He continued walking.

Donovan gritted his teeth. He picked up another stone and threw it. It hit Chris on the back again.

Chris finally stopped. He turned around and looked straight at Donovan. "Do you still have something to say to me?"

Donovan walked toward him unhurriedly. He stood in front of Chris and asked with annoyance, "I helped you so much, and all I get is a thank you before you turn and leave? Do you think you can get off that easily?"

Chris lowered his head in shame.

And just like that, Chris turned back around. He took Billy's hand and followed Donovan into the SUV heading back to Valanthea.

The car drove along the mountain road in the foreign land, following the winding river along the border. The surrounding scenery was quiet and beautiful.

On the surface, it did not look as dangerous as the rumors suggested. It looked suitable for sightseeing.

Chris was very familiar with this vast area. He pointed out a route for Hank that was closer to the national gate, shaving two hours off the original navigation time.

Although no one spoke much in the back seat, the tension between Donovan and Chris had obviously eased. It was completely different from the atmosphere when they had first arrived.
