Hearing Giselle mention school made Chris realize that this was indeed a matter requiring serious consideration. He could not let Billy repeat the path he had taken in this life.
"He doesn't speak Edevanian."
Chris explained that the abductors had likely dumped Billy with a rural family in Cambiria for the past few years. The boy only spoke a local Cambirian dialect that even Chris could barely understand.
After some discussion, Giselle suggested sending Billy to an Edevanian language institute for a year. Once he could communicate in basic Edevanian, he could enter an international school for formal education. If they decided to stay in Valanthea long-term, they could also hire a private tutor for one-on-one Valanthean lessons at home.
"Let's put the school matter aside for now," Chris said. "His current state isn't suitable for being around too many people. I'll make plans after I've adjusted his temperament."
Donovan agreed with Chris. He then instructed Heath to assign two bodyguards and a caretaker to Chris' home to ensure Billy's safety and take care of his daily needs.
Chris was moved beyond words by Donovan's thoughtful arrangements. He could not find flowery words to express his feelings in person, so he simply accepted everything in silence. However, the look in his eyes held an indescribable sense of devotion and submission.
"It's been a long day. Take the kid home, give him a bath, and get some sleep." Donovan then signaled for the bodyguards and caretaker to accompany them.
"Thank you." Chris paused before adding, "Send me the work schedule for tomorrow."
"Don't talk to me about work for the next month," Donovan ordered coldly. "Go back, recover from your injuries, and take care of your son. We'll talk when you are fully recovered!"
Chris didn't say another word. He grabbed Billy's arm and turned to leave.
However, just as he reached the door, Donovan remembered something. He called out to stop Chris and asked him to wait a few minutes.
Although Giselle had changed her opinion of Chris, she still could not completely set her mind at ease when she thought about the things he had done in the past.
She said, "Aren't you usually very cautious? Why do you treat him like he is one of us now? You treat him better than a biological brother. It's not like you at all."
Donovan fell into a brief silence.
Indeed, Giselle's questioning was valid. Based on his past experience with personnel, he would never have kept someone like Chris, who had such a complex history and a criminal background, by his side, let alone allowed him to come and go freely in his life.
However, after everything that had happened and the special trust established between them, he simply could not bring himself to rationally sever the relationship.
"I trust my intuition," Donovan said in a muffled voice. "How bad can a man be if he loves his child?"
