Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 844

"I hope you never tell Donovan about our history," Chris said.

Giselle paused. "I won't."

"I mean never," he emphasized. "Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. Let that secret stay buried deep in your heart. Treat it as if it never happened."

"Okay." Giselle had already made up her mind about that anyway.

She had actually been worried that Chris might slip up, so hearing him make the request was a relief. "Don't worry. As far as anyone knows, we never met before coming here."

"Good," replied Chris.

Silence filled the car again, broken only by the hum of the tires on the highway.

Giselle leaned back in her seat and glanced at Chris. Seeing his quiet focus gave her a sense of peace. The rescue of Billy had erased her lingering suspicions, and she finally felt safe around him.

The next six months brought a period of unprecedented peace to Giselle's life.

It was like they were telepathic. Chris could read Donovan's mind and anticipate his needs before he even spoke. He always delivered perfect results. Whenever Donovan faced a problem he did not want to handle or a person he did not want to see, he just handed it to Chris. Whenever subordinates asked about trivial matters, Donovan had a simple two-word response—ask Chris.

Everyone in the company knew Chris was the favorite. Even high-ranking executives treated him with deference. Female employees and clients frequently tried to get close to him once they found out he was single.

However, Chris did not let the power go to his head. He remained low-key and professional, treating everyone with a cool detachment. He did not care about the flattery. He simply enjoyed being by Donovan's side, inseparable like a shadow.

The only downside was his lack of formal education. He could not handle the technical medical aspects of the business.
