Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 843

"You're here?" Giselle asked, pulling herself out of the emotions brought on by the wedding video. "Did you need something?"

Chris walked in and spoke in his usual flat tone. "You have a business trip to Jorgeton this afternoon. Your husband asked me to drive you. He thinks it is safer."

Hearing him say that made Giselle want to laugh. "He is being so dramatic. It is only a 90-minute drive, and I already have a driver."

Chris did not argue. He simply asked what time they were leaving, where they were going, and if she needed to pack anything.

Giselle noticed that ever since he had rescued Billy, Chris seemed much lighter. He was no longer the gloomy, heavy-hearted bodyguard she had first met. Seeing this change allowed her to slowly let go of her own prejudices against him.

When they got to the car, Giselle naturally sat in the passenger seat and buckled her seatbelt.

Watching him drive in silence, Giselle decided to make small talk. "How is your son doing? Has he adapted to life here?"

"Not bad," Chris answered casually. "He understands what people say now, and his temper has improved a lot."

"That's good. He's still young, so his personality is only temporary. It isn't set in stone yet. You can correct it slowly." Giselle paused before asking, "Have you found a school? Do you need me to ask around for you?"

"We decided on a school last week. He helped me find it," replied Chris.

"He?" Giselle did not catch on immediately.

Chris replied flatly, "Your husband."

"Oh." Giselle chuckled and habitually patted him on the shoulder. "Would it kill you to say his name? You make everything sound so mysterious."

She teased him further. "Your boss treats you pretty well. I am starting to worry he might fall in love with you."

Chris's expression froze for a second. He forced a smile but did not say anything.

Giselle could not stand the silence in the car, so she started a new topic. "Now that you have your son and you are stable here, have you thought about finding a girlfriend? You know, dating and getting married.

"It would be good to find a mom for the boy. You can't handle work and a household all by yourself."

Chris drove in silence for nearly a minute before answering. "No. I already got one woman killed because of marriage. I won't do it again."

Knowing that the woman he referred to was his late wife, Giselle felt a sudden pang of sympathy. She did not know how to comfort him, so she just offered a platitude. "You have to look forward. If you meet the right woman in the future, you should consider it."

"I don't have much interest in women," he said abruptly.

"What?"

Chris offered a simple explanation. "Women are too much trouble. Their moods change constantly.

Chris fell silent again. He stared straight ahead at the road, seemingly focused on driving, but his mind was a mix of complex emotions.

In truth, he had already buried those memories deep in his heart.

It was not that he had a bad memory. It was simply because Giselle was Donovan's wife. He would never do anything to betray Donovan, so he had wiped away any thoughts that should not exist.

Even in the enclosed space of the car, he did not feel a single ripple of temptation.

Chris' initial attraction to Giselle in the Gold Delta had been shallow. He had been captivated by her intoxicating beauty and intrigued by the fact that she had managed to escape him. He had wanted to move heaven and earth to find her just to get answers.

But after coming to Valanthea and establishing a special bond of mutual respect with Donovan, he realized that his attraction to a woman was insignificant.

Women were a distraction that would only slow him down.

"Okay," Chris answered.

After a long silence, he called her by her real name for the first time. "Giselle, can you promise me one... very important thing?"

"What is it?" Giselle asked, looking puzzled.
