Rita wasn’t just any manager–she handled the biggest names in the industry and could read Amber’s every little move.
“I don’t care if you actually copied the song or not,” she said firmly. “But if this spirals out of control, it’s only going to hurt you. You don’t want your debut to be defined by a plagiarism scandal, do you?”
“Then… what can we do?” Amber asked, panic creeping into her voice.
“Calm down. I’ll bring in a professional lawyer to sort this out. But listen carefully–this is your only warning. One mistake like this again, and there won’t be a second chance. Understand?”
Amber nodded, taking it in. Even with Trevor’s protection giving her access to top–tier resources, Rita wasn’t the type to let her get away with another fiasco. If it happened again, no matter whether she had really done it or not, the public would blow up.
“Are you sure a lawyer can handle this?” Her anxiety flared. Rita’s voice softened, carrying calm authority. “Don’t worry. I’ve already booked the top legal team in the industry. They’ll manage everything.”
For the past few days, Serena had thrown herself into the case–quietly, keeping it under wraps. She combed through mountains of data and reached out to respected music critics, who agreed to create video analyses highlighting the similarities between the two songs. These would serve as expert testimony in court.
Given that Ethan’s song had been released long before Amber’s, Serena estimated their chances of winning at a solid sixty to seventy percent.
However, just as her confidence was at its peak, her phone buzzed with a message from Ethan. “Ms. Steele, I’m sorry for the trouble these past few days. I’ve decided not to pursue the case after all.”
She blinked at the message, confused. “What’s going on? Scared the case might fail? Don’t sweat it–losing the first round isn’t the end. We can appeal, and it’s not our only strategy. The critics I reached out to will post videos exposing her plagiarism.”
He replied, “It’s not about that. I just don’t want to go through with the lawsuit.”
She exhaled, realizing she was powerless. When the client decides not to pursue it, the lawyer is powerless. After all, lawyers can’t drag clients into court against their will.
That evening, after finishing her shoot, Winona took Serena to a tucked–away lounge that guaranteed seclusion. “Finally done!! even did some wire stunts this time–looked pretty epic, right?”
“Yeah… you did well.” Serena’s compliment came out flat, lacking real enthusiasm.
Winona did not need to think twice. One glance was enough to tell something was wrong. “You are distracted tonight. Something is weighing on you, isn’t it?”
Serena denied it with a small shake of her head, but the frustration still slipped through. “That acquaintance of yours abruptly backed out of the lawsuit. Do you have any idea what happened?”
Winona’s connection with Ethan went back to a drama soundtrack. He had once provided a song for one of the dramas she worked on, which was how they crossed paths. He had entered the industry through a talent competition. His singing was passable at best,

Within the circle, his compositions were well known and widely used. Many established artists had performed songs written by him, yet when he stepped into the spotlight himself, he never quite caught public attention.
Recently, Winona had heard rumors about him being dragged into a plagiarism dispute. Trusting no one else, she had immediately sent him to the only lawyer she believed could handle it–Serena.
“Wait, he is backing out?” She froze for a second. “Serena, don’t worry. I’ll get the truth from him.”
