Amber was stunned into silence. Where had the Trevor who once promised me the world and swore he would grant me anything! asked for gone?
This was barely her first real setback since entering the entertainment industry, and he was already telling her to retreat? That was unacceptable. “Trevor… I will stop crying,” she said quickly, forcing herself to steady her voice. “I will behave and will wait for your update, all right?”
Trevor pressed his fingers against his temples, exhaustion and irritation written all over him. “All right.” After ending the call, he remained alone in his office, agitation simmering. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it, taking a harsh drag.
Suddenly, the door swung open. “Hey, who is smoking in the office? This is against Mr. Levine’s rules. Did someone forget…” The administrative staff member working overtime stopped mid–sentence when she saw who it was. “Oh… Mr. Trevor. It is you.”
He shot her an impatient look. “What? Is there a problem?” The man standing there tonight bore no resemblance to the calm, courteous executive everyone knew.
“N–no. Nothing at all,” she blurted out. She had already retreated halfway out the door, yet she still summoned the courage to add, very carefully, “Uhm… Mr. Trevor, Mr. Levine really does not like anyone smoking in the office area…”
Irritation flickered across Trevor’s face. Yes, this was the Levine Group headquarters–but it was hardly his Uncle Sebastian’s private kingdom. His father sat on the executive board as well. Since when did lighting a cigarette in my own company require permission?
The young woman caught sight of the frost settling over his sharp features, and a chill ran straight down her spine. Just then, Mason happened to pass by. Seeing the awkward standoff, he stepped closer. “What is going on here?”
“Mr.. Royce, I was only reminding Mr. Trevor that smoking is prohibited in office spaces…” The staff’s voice grew softer as she

rall? As expected–wealthy heirs were all cut from the same cloth.
ason’s gaze flicked briefly to the smoke curling in the air. “That’s enough. You can head home.”
en he turned back to Trevor, his smile calm but firm, neither deferential por provocative. “No need to take it personally, Mr. Trevor. The rule is clear–no smoking anywhere in the office zone. It applies to everyone. Senior executives. Board members. Even Mr. Levine himself.”
He was not referring to Sebastian. He meant Nathan. Trevor was left momentarily speechless. The anger boiling inside him had nowhere to land. He stubbed out the cigarette with unnecessary force, irritation bleeding into his voice. “Satisfied now?”
Mason’s expression did not change. “Yes.”
A beat passed before Trevor spoke again. “Then tell me—when is Uncle Sebastian finally done with his meeting?” The edge in his tone was impossible to miss.
Mason’s smile faded by a fraction, his voice dropping into something cooler and more official. “Mr. Trevor, Mr. Levine’s schedule is not something I have the authority to intervene in.”
Nothing followed. Trevor stood there, feeling the weight of the day finally crash down on him. Today, he had been stifled from every direction–and there was nowhere left to vent it.
It was nearly eleven at night when Sebastian finally summoned a visibly frayed Trevor into his office. “What’s going on, Trevor? he

asked calmly. “My assistant said you were looking for me urgently.” He spoke as he slipped into his suit jacket, unhurried, fingers adjusting his tie with meticulous care. His tone was light, almost detached.
Trevor drew a slow breath. No matter how agitated he was, he would never dare show attitude in front of his uncle. “Uncle Sebastian,” he said carefully, “someone is deliberately targeting Amber today. They’re accusing her of plagiarism and pushing negative trends. I tried pulling the heat down, but it didn’t work. I was hoping you could step in and say something.”
Sebastian finally looked up, his gaze steady and unreadable. “Is that so?” he said mildly. “Then you’re saying Amber didn’t plagiarize?”
“Of course she didn’t!” Trevor answered too quickly. The moment his words left his mouth, a flicker of unease crept in as he met those bottomless eyes. “Uncle Sebastian, you know she’s never gone through anything like this,” he continued, forcing conviction into his voice. “She’s been torn apart online for hours. Do you have any idea how devastating that is for her?”
Sebastian gave a small, indifferent nod. “I understand it’s painful for her,” he said coolly. “But that world has never been gentle. If she can’t survive that kind of pressure, then as her partner, you might want to persuade her to walk away sooner rather than later.“”
He paused, then added with quiet weight, “After all, you won’t always be there to shield her from every blow. Isn’t that the reality?”
Trevor froze mid–thought. The words landed heavier than they sounded. So this was it–Sebastian wasn’t raising his voice, wasn’t accusing him outright, yet every sentence felt like a measured reminder of his limits. Was this… a polite way of telling me I was powerless?
