Sebastian turned his head and caught the way she wrinkled her nose. He got the message righ
away.
“Alright, that’s enough. When it’s my turn to get married, I’ll send out invites again. Everyone
can go.
“You’re scaring my wife.”
Serena looked at him.
One second more and she might’ve wished she could mute him permanently.
She let out a forced laugh. “He’s joking. Don’t take it seriously.”
Lucinda bit her lip and glanced her way. “Rena, Uncle Sebastian can really have a sharp tongue if he wants to.”
She’d never seen him act this sharp before. Not unless it was business.
The table had been swamped. Donald had tried to force his way through but kept getting blocked.
Now that the crowd was thinning, he finally slipped in.
Donald’s smile stretched across his face. “Rena, how do you get married without telling me? That’s a big deal.”
Technically, he and Sebastian were the same generation. But Sebastian gave him a cool look and said, “Mr. Steele.”
Donald’s shoulders stiffened. “Well, I didn’t expect you to end
up
with
my daughter, Mr.
Levine.
“She’s got a quick temper. Hope you don’t mind.”
Serena’s brow twitched. She knew what this was. Donald was trying to cozy up so Sebastian could save Steele Tech.
“Really? I don’t think Rena’s got a temper. She’s the softest woman I know.”

Soft? Seriously? Donald had nearly choked on rage more times than he could count because
her.
“Yes, yes. Serena’s got a good heart. Just like her mom.”
That was a mistake. The second he said that, Serena’s whole energy turned cold.
“Alright, Dad. What are you really here for?” she cut in, sharp.
“Serena, what’s that tone? I’m talking to your husband. Why are you interrupting?”
Donald was the type who never respected the women in his life. Wife or daughter, it didn’t
matter.
He made every call in that house.
So anytime she pushed back, he hated it.
“Mr. Steele, maybe don’t push so hard. Rena’s just hungry. We can catch up after we eat.”
Donald didn’t expect that Sebastian cared about Serena that much. He froze.
Then he laughed it off. “Right, right. Rena, go ahead and eat. Bring Mr. Levine home next time. We’ll talk then.”
When he finally walked away, Serena gave a cold smile. “You don’t need to bother with him. He’s looking for a handout.”
She couldn’t care less about what happened to Steele Tech.
If it went under, all the better.
“And you?” Sebastian asked. “You trying to get something out of me too?”
The two of them flirted like no one else was around. Lucinda might as well have vanished.
She’d rather get run over by a car than watch this little romantic scene.
“Alright, I’ll stop. If you want to stay, we’ll stay. If not, let’s go.”
Serena pressed her lips together. “Aren’t you worried about your family? They didn’t look happy.”
