Chapter 195 At Work
Serena dove straight into the contract.
Daniel showed up at ten–thirty to check on progress. He seemed satisfied with the changes.
During the break, Eugene made small talk with him.
But he noticed something weird. Daniel kept glancing over at Serena,
And not in a subtle way. Eugene rubbed his temple. Was this guy seriously eyeing his trainee?
He tried a soft nudge. “So, Mr. Hart, I heard your baby just turned one month. You planning anything? Maybe a hundred–day party?”
Daniel smiled, “We’ll skip the one–month. Do something simple for the hundred–day. Just a quiet dinner with family”
Eugene didn’t care about the dinner. He just wanted to remind Daniel he had a kid at home. No reason to start acting out.
“Keeping it small is smart. Just a nice gesture.”
Unfortunately, Daniel didn’t seem to take the hint. Eugene caught him staring again and felt the beginning of a headache. He stood and offered, “Mr. Hart, want to step out for a smoke?”
Daniel blinked, then nodded, “Sure.” He had no idea Eugene was having some comments about him.
They stepped out to the stairwell where the building had its smoker’s corner.
forner.
Eugene lit a cigarette and handed it to him. “I’ve got to admit, Mr. Hart. You’re in a good spot. Career’s solid. Beautiful family. You’ve nailed it.”
Daniel let out a polite laugh. “Not bad. Things are steady.”
He knew Eugene had gone through a divorce, so he kept it surface–level.
But today, Eugene seemed unusually talkative,
“I’m forty now. Not really looking. But I don’t get this generation either. Take Serena. She got burned pretty badly. Took her months to get back to normal. I’ve been thinking about introducing her to someone
decent.
“She’s too genuine. One more heartbreak and she won’t bounce back.”
Daniel’s hand paused mid–smoke. Something about this felt off. Was Eugene trying to warn him?
Wait, did he get something wrong somehow?
He almost rolled his eyes. Did Eugene think he was creeping on a pretty face?

The only reason he was paying attention to Serena was because she was his boss‘ wife. The real one.
They didn’t know a thing.
Once they finished up, Serena had already wrapped the session.
Daniel told them the CEO still needed to sign, so they could head back.
He took the folder and walked into the executive suite.
Sebastian didn’t look up. He was still buried in documents. “Leave it at the corner.”
Daniel placed the folder down slowly. “Sir, the legal team from Beaumont Legal came in today.”
Sebastian’s pen stilled for a moment. She hadn’t mentioned it this morning.
He kept his tone even. “Is it urgent?”
“Not really. Once you review it, we’ll move forward.”
Sebastian flipped a few pages, then looked up. “Have they left?”
He didn’t have to clarify who.
“Not yet, sir. I asked them to wait.
“Oh. Also, sir, during our break, Mr. Beaumont mentioned something. Said he knows a promising young prosecutor. He wants to introduce him to your wife.”
“What?”
Sebastian’s brow lifted slightly. Eugene was trying to set up his wife?
Back in the conference room, Eugene suddenly shivered.
“Mr. Beaumont, is the air conditioning too strong?” one of the Levine Group staff asked.
