Chapter 197 Determination
She gave up on waiting for Eugene.
Her eyes focused on the control panel, watching the numbers change.
Daniel thought about speaking but didn’t. Sebastian hadn’t said a word, so neither would he.
The elevator jolted suddenly. A loud metallic thud echoed through the space.
The lights cut out. Everything went black.
Daniel squinted. “What just happened? Was that a power cut?”
He reached for his phone and called the admin office. Sebastian turned the moment it happened.
In the dim glow from Daniel’s screen, he spotted her.
She was huddled in the corner, curled up tightly. Her body shook. His chest clenched.
Sebastian moved quickly and crouched next to her. “Don’t panic. It’s just a blackout.”
His words didn’t calm her. Her face stayed buried in her arms, and her shoulders kept trembling.
He had been angry earlier. But now? He couldn’t hold onto that anger.

He pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her. His voice softened against her ear. “I’m here. You’re safe.”
As his voice faded, the lights flickered back on.
“Mr. Levine,” Daniel said, “maintenance just restarted the emergency system. We’ll stop at the first floor…”
He trailed off. He had just spotted the two of them on the floor, wrapped up together.
Should he vanish now? Was that an option?
That scene hit him like a brick to the chest. Painful and awkward.
Serena’s eyes were still shut tight. As the light returned, she opened them slowly.
She found herself face to face with Sebastian. Their noses were nearly touching.
She snapped back and shoved him off instinctively.
“Sorry. I didn’t realize it was you.”
The push sent Sebastian stumbling. He landed flat on the floor with a heavy thud.
Serena froze.

Daniel froze.
She hadn’t meant to cause a scene. She just wanted to create some space. She didn’t want anyone getting the wrong idea.
Sure, Daniel probably knew everything. But this was Levine Group’s building. If someone else saw them, it wouldn’t look good.
Daniel was screaming inside. How had he ended up in the middle of this? The CEO just hit the floor. Was it a fireable offense to witness it?
Sebastian braced himself against the wall and stood up slowly. His face darkened.
He raised one brow and stared down at her. She looked like she wanted to sink through the floor.
He gave a dry chuckle. Ungrateful.
The elevator dinged.
They had reached the ground floor.
Serena saw the doors open. Her cheeks flushed pink. She mumbled, “Sorry,” and rushed out.
The two men stood there in silence.
Daniel cleared his throat. “Sir, are you alright?”
Sebastian looked at him, voice flat. “What do you think?”
His eyes followed the blur of her figure as she darted down the hallway.
She still hadn’t changed. Darkness always knocked the control out of her.
He lifted his hand, still catching the faint trace of her perfume on his fingers. He brought them near his face.
At the worst possible moment, Daniel saw the whole thing.
Their eyes met. Neither spoke for a few seconds.
Daniel’s spine went stiff. “I’ll head to five. Take your time.”
He turned and bolted for the stairs.
He was convinced. One day, the CEO was going to silence him.
He needed to stay close to the boss‘ wife. That was his only way to survive.
Because the CEO had officially entered full wife–devoted territory.
Serena ran through the parking garage, breath shallow and uneven.

Chapter 198 Serena’s Concern
She couldn’t make sense of Sebastian.
One minute he was as cold as granite. The next, he was pulling her into his arms like she was his whole world.
She could still feel the chill of his cologne on her skin. Crisp, sharp, and somehow warm beneath the surface. The contrast left her breathless.
“Serena! The power went out. You were in the elevator, right? Are you okay?”
Eugene’s voice came from behind her so suddenly that she jumped.
“Boss,” she muttered, “can you at least make some noise when you walk?”
He blinked. “Did I not? You looked totally out of it. What were you thinking about?”
“Nothing.” She opened the car door and slid into the passenger seat.
Eugene got in too, still eyeing her. “You overheated? Your face is bright red.”
“No,” she answered and rolled down the window. “It’s humid. Rain’s coming.”
“Yeah, the forecast said thunderstorms.” He pulled out of the lot. “So, what happened in the elevator? That blackout must’ve freaked you out.”
“It wasn’t a big deal,” Serena said while watching the buildings pass. “Mr. Hart was there. He called maintenance. It got handled fast.”
Daniel again. Why was he everywhere?
Eugene’s jaw tightened. He had already warned that man to keep his distance. And yet, there he was again, hovering around Serena.
The thought that he was alone in the elevator with Serena frustrated Eugene.
“Mr. Hart was with you? Just the two of you?”
Serena paused. “Yeah.”
She wasn’t about to mention Sebastian. Eugene would spiral, but that tiny omission only made the misunderstanding worse.
They drove in silence after that. Just as they reached the parking garage under the office building, he spoke again. “Serena, maybe you should meet that prosecutor I told you about.”
Serena pressed a hand to her forehead. “Boss, I’m serious. I’m not interested.”
Eugene’s stomach turned. He had a terrible feeling she was already falling under Daniel’s spell.
