Chapter 198 Serena’s Concern
She couldn’t make sense of Sebastian.
One minute he was as cold as granite. The next, he was pulling her into his arms like she was his whole world.
She could still feel the chill of his cologne on her skin. Crisp, sharp, and somehow warm beneath the surface. The contrast left her breathless.
“Serena! The power went out. You were in the elevator, right? Are you okay?”
Eugene’s voice came from behind her so suddenly that she jumped.
“Boss,” she muttered, “can you at least make some noise when you walk?”
He blinked. “Did I not? You looked totally out of it. What were you thinking about?”
“Nothing.” She opened the car door and slid into the passenger seat.
Eugene got in too, still eyeing her. “You overheated? Your face is bright red.”
“No,” she answered and rolled down the window. “It’s humid. Rain’s coming.”
“Yeah, the forecast said thunderstorms.” He pulled out of the lot. “So, what happened in the elevator? That blackout must’ve freaked you out.”
“It wasn’t a big deal,” Serena said while watching the buildings pass. “Mr. Hart was there. He called maintenance. It got handled fast.”
Daniel again. Why was he everywhere?
Eugene’s jaw tightened. He had already warned that man to keep his distance. And yet, there he was again, hovering around Serena.
The thought that he was alone in the elevator with Serena frustrated Eugene.
“Mr. Hart was with you? Just the two of you?”
Serena paused. “Yeah.”
She wasn’t about to mention Sebastian. Eugene would spiral, but that tiny omission only made the misunderstanding worse.
They drove in silence after that. Just as they reached the parking garage under the office building, he spoke again. “Serena, maybe you should meet that prosecutor I told you about.”
Serena pressed a hand to her forehead. “Boss, I’m serious. I’m not interested.”
Eugene’s stomach turned. He had a terrible feeling she was already falling under Daniel’s spell.

News of Elijah’s breakup had already made its way around.
“Sebastian, you’re coming out with us tonight, right? Midnight Society?”
Sebastian didn’t want to. He had a wife now. The last thing he needed was to waste time with a bunch of overgrown boys.
He was about to say no when Elijah pressed harder. “You can’t skip. You’re our guy. If you don’t show, it’s like you’re not even backing me up.”
Sebastian narrowed his eyes. Was this really that deep?
“Fine. I’ll swing by later.”
“Perfect!” Elijah grinned. “But don’t bring your girl. It’s strictly guys tonight.”
Sebastian gave a lazy smile. “Okay”
Then, he picked up his phone and called the lady who had shoved him like he was nothing.
Serena saw his name flashing on the screen. She stepped into the bathroom and answered, “Hello?”
“You at the office?” His tone was smooth.
“Yeah, I just got in.”
“You finishing on time tonight?”
She hesitated. “Should be.”
“Good. I’ll pick you up. We’re going to a friend’s thing.”
