“Rena, don’t be too hard on yourself. In the end, we’re all going to the same place. Try to let it go, alright?” he said, attempting to soothe her.
Serena gave a slight nod, her expression composed.
When Sebastian arrived and noticed her standing silently, something tightened in his chest.
He wanted to comfort her, but the room was crowded. It wasn’t the right moment.
Dressed in a black mourning gown, Kyana’s gaze immediately caught the tall figure standing before her grandma’s portrait. A sharp glint of recognition flashed in her eyes.
Mom is right. Men like Sebastian don’t come around often in Denton.
Right now, Old Mr. Levine clearly feels some obligation to our family, even if only a little. If I can win over someone like Sebastian, do! ever have to fear Serena again?
Serena observed Kyana slipping quietly behind Sebastian, her brow furrowed in thought.
What scheme is she plotting now?
Fearing Kyana might cause trouble, Serena trailed after her.
No sooner had she stepped into the corridor than she heard Kyana’s sweet, calculated voice. “Oh, Sebastian, I’m so sorry. I tripped and spilled coffee all over your jacket.
“Please, let me clean that for you.”
As she spoke, Kyana reached toward the rigid lines concealed beneath his suit, her pulse racing uncontrollably.
Sebastian’s tone was icy, his eyes flashing with mild disgust, “It’s unnecessary. Besides, we don’t know each other well enough for you to call my name.”
Kyana’s words caught in her throat.
She sensed the scorn in his gaze, but she refused to let the moment slip. “Oh, Mr. Levine, may I–may I call you
that?”
“Please, don’t be upset. I didn’t mean to do it,” she added, leaning closer, teetering dangerously.
Sebastian reacted swiftly, sidestepping, and Kyana stumbled, hitting the floor with a thud.
“Sorry,” he said, his voice tinged with irritation. “This is the first day since Madam Morland passed. Perhaps a little respect is in
order.”
Without another word, he walked away.
He had wanted to find Serena to offer some comfort, but as he turned the corner, their eyes met.
Her gaze was serene, yet his instincts warned him of the storm beneath.

“How… how are you holding up?” he asked.
Serena inclined her head slightly. “I’m alright.”
Sebastian stepped closer and lightly tapped her head. “Liar.”
“You’re not fine,” he murmured.
Her throat tightened at his words.
“Mr. Sebastian…” she began.
He paused, then drew her close against his shoulder with gentle care, treating her like something fragile and precious.

His stern features softened, a quiet warmth touching his expression. His lips parted. “Serena, when you’re with me, you don’t have to pretend to be strong.”
From afar, Kyana ground her teeth, fury flashing in her eyes.
B*tch, She’s going after Sebastian as well? Dream on!
