“I’m not joking with you. Take your time and think carefully. Trevor is my nephew. Whatever debt he owes you, as his uncle, I will personally settle it.”
Sebastian watched Serena closely, his gaze carrying more than one implication. Only a few days had passed, yet her face already looked thinner, the softness in her cheeks fading.
“You can set the conditions,” he added calmly. “Whatever you want–just say it, and I’ll accept.”
Serena’s almond–shaped eyes narrowed slightly as suspicion flickered through them. “No limits?”
“None,” Sebastian replied without hesitation. His voice was resolute. “Anything at all. However much it is, whatever form it takes– you decide, and I’ll comply.”
To an outsider, there was something unsettling hidden in that promise.
But Serena was drowning in grief, too overwhelmed to notice anything amiss.
“Understood,” she said stiffly, forcing the words past her lips. “Thank you, Sebastian.”
“No trouble at all. Just remember what we talked about today. You still have things to handle–I’ll be on my way.”
As he turned to leave, there was a faint lightness in Sebastian’s stride.
In his head, he replayed the way she’d spoken his name.
Sebastian.
It was acceptable–for now.
Next time, he wanted to hear her call him Seb.
Kyana stalked away, her nerves frayed. Why does Sebastian go out of his way to talk to that b*tch?
The warmth in his eyes just moments ago–it was something she had never once received from him.
The thought that Serena might have caught the attention of someone even more powerful made Kyana’s stomach churn with jealousy.
Trevor and Amber arrived late, entering separately from the Levine family.
After paying his respect, Trevor’s eyes swept across the hall, instinctively searching–yet he didn’t spot her.
Amber caught the subtle movement. Anger simmered beneath her composed exterior, but her expression remained flawless.
With practiced nonchalance, she asked, “Trevor, are you looking for someone?”
He shook his head, forcing a stiff smile. “No. Just checking around.”

Then he added quickly, “Amber, I’m going to the restroom. Stay here for a moment, okay?”

Sebastian wasn’t the only one who understood what Judith meant to Serena. After five years together, Trevor knew it just as well.
She might have been somewhere nearby, her eyes red and swollen from crying. The thought of that stubborn woman breaking down left him restless, filling him with an urgent need to see her.
Even if she despised him now, he didn’t want her to carry all that grief alone that day.
“Trevor, who are you looking for?” Kyana called out from behind him at the entrance.
He turned. “Oh–Kyana. Have you seen Serena?”
Her gaze darkened instantly. Him again–still chasing after that woman.
Her tone hardened. “You’re looking for Serena?”
“Yes,” he replied. “She was extremely close to her grandma. I just want to say a few words to her.”
The breakup was recent, yet to Trevor it felt unbearably distant, as if a lifetime had passed.
“She’s too stubborn sometimes,” he continued. “I just want to talk, to help her feel a little less miserable.”
le failed to hear the arrogance hidden in his own words.
