“And if you don’t mind that I broke off an engagement with your nephew, then… I’m willing.”

Sebastian’s Adam’s apple dipped slightly. “You’re sure?”

“Yeah. Marrying you would be a win for me.” Serena lowered her gaze, unable to look him in the eye.

“It wouldn’t.”

Heat rushed through Sebastian at that simple “I’m willing.” He’d showered just that morning, yet somehow he felt feverish all over again.

He grabbed a throw pillow from the couch and set it over his lap. “Your grandmother just passed. Let’s wait a year before we get the license and hold the ceremony?”

Serena’s expression dimmed fast. “No. Just a week. We’ll do it a week after she’s laid to rest.”

I can’t wait anymore, Grandma, she mused. I can’t wait to deal with those people. Please forgive me this once.

“But since my grandmother just passed, I want us to keep this private for now. Is that okay?” Serena wasn’t sure if the request would irritate him. For the time being, she wasn’t ready for anyone to find out.

Sebastian held her gaze, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Alright. After that, do you want to move in here? Or should I move into your place?”

Serena was slightly taken aback. He’s sure adapting to this whole ‘marriage‘ fast.

“I’ll move in.”

Sebastian nodded. He stood, pulled a card from a drawer, and slid it toward her. “Sorry, I don’t know what kind of style you gids prefer. Get whatever you need.”

Serena stared at the black card and swallowed. “It’s fine, I have-”

“I don’t make a habit of spending a woman’s money,” Sebastian cut her off. “Take it. A household has expenses no matter what i we’re getting married, what’s mine is yours.”

But mine definitely isn’t yours, Serena muttered inwardly. Not that my tiny savings amount to much anyway

She didn’t argue further. There would be plenty of times she’d need his influence later–one more card wouldn’t hurt. And she’d only use it for household expenses.
