Credence Electronics believed the goods they had received fell short of expectations, so they refused to make payment. The supplier insisted they had delivered exactly according to Credence Electronics‘ requirements. Since neither side could reach a compromise, the matter had gone to court.

If Levine Group acquired Credence Electronics along with all its assets and liabilities, once the pending lawsuit ruled that Credence Electronics had to pay, the financial burden would fall squarely on the parent company–Levine Group.

This time, the manager directly in charge of the case was Vera Koenig.

“Ms. Koenig, Ms. Steele from Beaumont Legal is waiting in the reception room.”

“Let her wait,” Vera said without looking up.

Serena waited from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. before finally walking back to the assistant’s desk. “Excuse me, is Ms. Koenig still in a meeting?”

The assistant smiled. “Sorry, I’ll let you know the moment she’s free.”

Serena frowned. “But we already had an appointment.”

“Ms. Steele, you have to understand–our manager is very busy.”

Serena kept her composure and sat back down. She decided to wait another half hour. If there was still no response after thirty minutes, she wasn’t going to waste any more of her time.

straight to the point. “Ms. Koenig, could you tell me the scheduled date for the judgment in this pending lawsuit, and the success rate your company’s legal team has projected?”

Vera chuckled. “Ms. Steele… surely a lawyer like you knows that your profession has the tightest lips. How would we know the chances of winning? But in our hearts, of course, we believe our company will win.”

Serena continued, “Ms. Koenig, the first trial ended two months ago. Has the presiding judge given you any indication of when the ruling might come out?”

“Look at you, Ms. Steele. How could we possibly urge the judge?”

Sometimes, attorneys familiar with a judge received informal updates before a ruling. But clearly, Vera had no intention of sharing anything.

Vera smiled again. “Ms. Steele, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you. It’s just that I saw the attorney list the Levine Group provided to our legal department this morning… and your name wasn’t on it.”

Serena’s brows knotted. “That’s impossible.”
