Burn in the Alpha Princess's Wrath (Leslie and Kirby) novel Chapter 468

Leslie’s POV

I could feel the atmosphere shift instantly as the surrounding whispers died down.

Who was Leiss? He was Kirby’s right-hand man, a figure of significant standing within the Crimson Moon Pack. And yet here he was, groveling before me simply because of one reckless remark.

I wasn't surprised in the least.

I swept a calm, composed gaze over him, a cold sneer forming in my mind. This dog had finally learned his lesson; he knew exactly what happened to those who didn't admit their mistakes quickly enough. Had he doubled down, I would have ensured he paid a price far more painful than a simple loss of face.

I let the silence stretch for a few beats, allowing everyone’s eyes to linger on the two of us. Then, I offered a faint smile and blinked, letting my eyes sparkle with a bright, charming light.

"I forgive you, Beta Leiss," I said, my voice as casual as if I were joking. "But you only get this one chance. You should be much more careful with your words next time."

I saw his tense shoulders sag with relief, but the moment he registered the blatant warning in my tone, I could imagine the chill running down his spine. For the sake of his meager remaining dignity, he had to endure it.

I had no interest in dealing with him further. I turned to Michael, who was still hovering nearby. "Isn't it time to pop the champagne?"

Michael took the hint immediately. He clapped his hands and called out in his signature high-energy voice, "I almost forgot! Come on, everyone, let’s raise a glass together!"

The attention of the room quickly shifted toward him.

Leiss seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. He shot a resentful look at Carris and opened his mouth to speak, but Carris beat him to it. He looked at me with those pathetic, puppy-dog eyes of his. "Leslie, we have a bond forged in life and death..."

I really didn't want to look at Leiss' face for another second. I stood up, set my glass aside, and gave him his marching orders. "Get out."

I saw Leiss grind his teeth. He had come here to make life miserable for Carris, only to have his own words blow up in his face. Of all the people to offend, he had picked the one person in this room he couldn't afford to cross.
