Kirby’s POV
It didn't take long for Malach to dig up the full story of what had happened, and he recounted every detail to me with unnecessary flair.
He finished with a lingering comment: "Carris is truly something else. He certainly has a way with women."
My brows knit together tightly, and my face darkened. For the first time, I actually felt a flicker of genuine sympathy for Leiss.
Carris was a complete menace.
"Alpha, should we do something to help Beta Leiss?" Malach asked tentatively.
My expression remained blank, my gaze shadowed. "No. That ex-wife of his is insufferable. He’s better off without her."
When all was said and done, I was still biased toward my own kin.
Malach nodded, but then something seemed to occur to him. He looked at me, a strange glint in his eyes. "Alpha, actually... you could learn a thing or two from Carris’s methods..."
I could practically hear what he was thinking: if I started acting like a manipulative "bitch," that posturing fake Adler wouldn't stand a chance.
My brow furrowed even deeper, and my voice turned freezing. "You want me to talk like that male-bitch? In your dreams."
The next day, I went directly to the Rogue Pack headquarters.
I didn't call ahead.
As the Alpha of the Crimson Moon Pack, stepping into Rogue territory technically required an appointment. However, I didn't want to use formalities to emphasize my status. It would only make me feel more distant from Leslie.
Sure enough, the young Beta at the front desk looked like she’d seen a ghost. Her eyes were wide as saucers, and she could barely stammer out a sentence. Her pheromones—the typical light, herbal scent of the Rogue Pack—became chaotic with shock.
"Kirby... Alpha? Do you... do you have an appointment with Miss Leslie?"
I frowned, suppressing my mounting impatience. I wasn't there to be interrogated.
"I’m here to bring Leslie breakfast," I said, lifting the thermal container in my hand. My voice was clipped. "Is she in?"
