Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 394

Fine. It wasn't the first time she'd embarrassed herself in front of him, anyway. And it was his fault for not letting Mr. Robinson let her in, forcing her to climb the wall just to find evidence. He was at least half responsible for the pathetic state she was in.

Cynthia walked into the living room, her eyes sweeping across the space before she quickly looked away. It was just a house; she didn't have many attachments to the place. She turned and headed for the entryway.

Dominic was waiting by the door. When he saw her approach, he pulled a pair of slippers from a nearby closet and set them on the floor.

"Put these on."

He'd had the property renovated but hadn't cleared the exterior yet. The ground was covered in gravel, and if Cynthia walked out barefoot, her feet would be shredded before she even reached the gate.

Cynthia stared at the white slippers, hesitating. Her feet were filthy. The moment she put them on, the pristine slippers would be ruined.

Seeing her pause, Dominic took two steps toward her, stopping just in front of her before leaning in close.

"You don't want to?"

Cynthia shook her head. "No, it's not that."

It was just that her feet were too black, and the slippers were too white.

Dominic raised an eyebrow, a captivating smile playing on his lips. "Is that so?"

His sudden smile dazzled her. She found herself staring, mesmerized by his handsome face so close to hers, and she unconsciously held her breath.

"I thought perhaps you were planning to walk out barefoot," he murmured, his voice a low, pleasant hum. "Hoping the gravel would tear up your feet so you'd have an excuse for me to carry you back."

His voice was deep and alluring, but his words snapped Cynthia back to reality. She quickly slipped her feet into the slippers.

"That wasn't my intention at all."
