Chaos Girl Rewrites the Script novel Chapter 280

Vivienne's mouth twitched. She debated doing a quick sidestep into the crowd so Alaric would have to pretend he was just walking past her and could obediently go invite his optimal choice.

As the thought crossed her mind, Alaric extended his hand toward her.

It was a flawlessly executed, gentlemanly invitation to dance.

...

Vivienne pressed her lips into a tight line, maintaining her smile as she unclipped the two mini speakers from her waist and held them out to him, her eyes practically screaming a warning.

[Back off, asshole. Quit while you're ahead, or I'll make sure we both look like total idiots.]

Alaric calmly took the speakers and handed them off to Bianca, who was eagerly watching the drama unfold.

"?" Bianca was completely baffled. She looked from Vivienne to Alaric, reluctantly accepting the speakers amidst the intensely awkward tension.

A subtle, breathtaking smile graced Alaric's lips. He rarely smiled, and bathed in the spotlight, it was a work of absolute art—like the first thaw of winter snow, or an immortal descending to the mortal realm.

Whispers rippled through the crowd. "Oh my god, he's so sweet to her, even holding her speakers."

...Vivienne wasn't the least bit enchanted by this "miracle." She knew exactly what that smile meant: it was a smug provocation from Alaric, proving his scheme had worked.

Fine. Let's do a ridiculous frog dance and make him regret this for the rest of his life!

Vivienne lifted her chin slightly and placed her hand into his waiting palm.

"This is too much! He is taking this too far!" Lara was on the verge of tears as she witnessed the exchange.

That morning in the main hall, Grandpa had explicitly agreed with Alaric that he would share his first dance with her. She had spent an entire month preparing for this exact moment, dressing to the nines, all to ensure she would be the undisputed star of tonight's gala.

But no matter how meticulously she calculated her moves, it was entirely useless if the main players refused to cooperate.

"Mom, this is all your fault! Didn't you say Grandpa and Alaric already agreed? I already bragged about it to everyone, and now they're all going to laugh at me!"

Lara spun around, ready to storm off. From the day she was born, she had been the center of attention. Forcing her to watch someone else steal her spotlight was a fate worse than death.

"Lara." Evelyn quickly grabbed her arm, a mocking sneer pulling at the corner of her lips. "Don't panic. Alaric passing you over is just him setting himself up for total humiliation."

She absolutely refused to believe that some wild brat dragged out of the countryside knew how to waltz. Serena Lowe had squandered all the money she squeezed from the family on herself; there was no way a daughter raised by her possessed an ounce of actual class.

Hearing that, Lara realized exactly what her mother meant, and her arrogant sense of superiority instantly surged back.

She was right. Lara had studied ballet since childhood to refine her grace, receiving elite etiquette training reserved for top aristocrats. How could Vivienne possibly compare to her?
