"Stubborn little thing."
Cyril's resistance thoroughly displeased Beaufort. The man unbuttoned his suit jacket, aimed at Cyril's right leg, and fired.
The bullet tore through flesh. Blood splattered, staining the pristine white sheets a vibrant red.
Vivienne had one foot out the door when the sudden gunshot echoed behind her. A wave of adrenaline set her blood on fire.
By now, Beaufort’s attention was completely captivated by Cyril. Blood pooled beneath the younger man, and though he was visibly weak, his eyes shone with a brilliant, defiant clarity.
*Fascinating. Looking at him like this... the resemblance is even stronger!*
The dark desire in Beaufort's gaze intensified. Ignoring the gunshot wound, he pressed down on Cyril's injured leg, sadistically tearing at his shirt.
Vivienne gripped the doorknob, her knuckles aching from the force.
*Riiiip.*
The sound of tearing fabric was deafening in the quiet room.
"It's dangerous for a guy to be out alone, especially a social butterfly like you. Take me with you. I can protect you."
The promise they made echoed in her mind. Vivienne closed her eyes and slowly released her grip on the door.
Lost in his twisted euphoria, Beaufort eagerly stripped off his outer coat. Just as he was about to unbutton his shirt, he sensed someone creeping up behind him. Without even looking, he casually raised his gun, aiming it straight at the intruder's forehead.
"Trying to sneak up on me? If I were you, I would have taken that golden opportunity to run," Beaufort sneered. "What a pity. The escape door this boy fought so hard to open for you is about to close."
Beaufort had intended to turn a blind eye; even if the girl made it outside, his men would have dealt with her. But she just had a death wish, walking right back into the line of fire.
A predatory darkness swirled in Beaufort's eyes. He was just about to pull the trigger when Vivienne suddenly grabbed the barrel of the gun resting against her forehead, looking as though she were on the verge of tears.
"No, no, you've got it all wrong!" she cried out. "I'm not here to attack you. I'm here to join in."
So, he had no reason to doubt Vivienne's current state.
"No, no! I really can't take it anymore. How about I go first?"
*Beat the pervert at his own game.*
Looking utterly impatient, Vivienne prepared to pounce.
"What do you mean, you go first?" Completely caught off guard by his other little pet's wild behavior, Beaufort yanked Vivienne back. "Hold on a second!"
Wincing at the rough grip, she asked, "Then you go first?"
A muscle feathered in Beaufort's jaw as he quietly scrutinized her.
"That doesn't work either?" Vivienne grew increasingly frantic. "Then we do it together? Please, I really can't handle it. That woman gave me two shots, and I feel like I'm burning alive."
