"He's on his way back."
Alaric shoved his phone into his pocket, his fingers brushing against the Silver Longevity Pendant once more.
He hesitated, then slowly opened his mouth. "Actually..."
*Bzzzt—*
His phone suddenly vibrated.
Alaric paused for a second before pulling it back out.
It was a text from Wesley.
[Boss, something happened.]
A video file followed immediately after. The thumbnail was frozen on a massive, terrifying wall of black smoke and roaring flames.
Alaric's expression hardened. He tapped play.
The sheer scale of the inferno looked like it could burn a hole straight through the sky. The audio was distorted by the violent wind, but the faint, agonizing screams of the dying were unmistakable.
Drawn by the chaotic noise coming from his phone, Vivienne leaned in to see. When she saw the sky glowing violently orange on the screen, she completely froze.
"Where is that?"
Alaric turned the screen off. "Merriton Port."
"Merriton Port?"
Vivienne instantly realized how disastrous this was.
Merriton Port was on fire?!
But... this had absolutely never happened in her previous life.

"Mom! Mom!"
Talia was in the living room applying a sheet mask when Bianca suddenly screamed in total panic. Startled, Talia ripped the mask off and sprinted to the parlor as fast as she could.
Bianca was rushing out at the exact same time, and they crashed right into each other.
As an elite executive assistant, Moira prided herself on having a psychological resilience far beyond the average person. But after working with Cyril, she finally understood what true, terrifying mental fortitude looked like.
She had spent the last three years helping Victoria commit countless atrocities. She had fully expected Cyril to take his revenge on her the moment he got the chance, but he hadn't. Not only did he spare her, but he was incredibly polite—so polite it was genuinely unsettling.
Moira handed him the glass with both hands. "Everything has been arranged for Elysian Fields Cemetery. We can head over tomorrow morning."
"Thank you," Cyril nodded, taking the glass and taking a slow sip.
"You're very welcome."
Moira felt a deep sense of unease. She hesitated, deciding she needed to show some initiative. "Sir, if I may ask, what kind of floral tributes should I prepare for tomorrow?"
"Whatever you think is best," Cyril replied smoothly. "I'll leave it to your discretion."
"Understood." Moira nodded and quickly backed out of the room.
Cyril downed the rest of the juice in one gulp and picked up the remote, flipping to a local news station.
Without exception, every single channel was covering the bombing at Merriton Port.
After flipping through several stations and finding nothing new, Cyril lost interest entirely and turned the TV off.
