Adrian Markell and Caspian Ravenshire talked in the Main Hall for two full hours before Adrian took his leave. Caspian politely invited the two of them to stay for a casual meal, but Adrian politely declined, citing a busy schedule.
The explosion at Merriton Port might have been kept from the public, but it couldn't be hidden from the other powerful syndicates in Athelvia. There was significant dissatisfaction among the elite regarding the trouble the Ravenshire family had stirred up this time, prompting demands for a high-level summit before Caspian's official visit to Solenforth.
This so-called summit was a political conference attended by Athelvia's old-money families, the newly rich consortiums, and government representatives.
Given the current international climate, Athelvia had already signed a peace treaty with Solenforth. Queen Julia Beaufort had personally written to invite Caspian to attend the Beaufort family's centennial celebration.
Adrian's visit this time was primarily to discuss the details of the trip to Solenforth next month with Caspian and to convey the core agenda of the upcoming summit.
Caspian, however, had anticipated Adrian's intentions beforehand and deliberately arranged for the second and third branches of the family to help host him.
After Adrian left, Cedric came into the room to serve a fresh round of tea before quietly retreating.
Dorian spoke up first. "Dad, this has to be the Whitmore family's doing. Gideon Whitmore has been getting very close to a few justices of the High Court lately. The consecutive downfalls of two governors in Gold Hill were also the Whitmores' handiwork. The incident at Merriton Port has massive implications. I'm afraid they've already dug something up."
Before Caspian could respond, Benedict voiced his displeasure. "So what if they did? Would Gideon dare to make a move? My Shadow Chamber isn't run by a bunch of petty politicians."
Dorian's expression remained unreadable as he turned to Benedict. "Arrogance invites disaster. If you leave too many loose ends, the boat will eventually capsize."
"Enough," Caspian interrupted the two of them.
Lucian actively shifted the topic. "Dad, the invitations for the summit are usually issued by Congress. Did Adrian come to Obsidian Estate specifically to show his goodwill? The new policies he's implemented lately have offended quite a few people and sparked a lot of public outrage."
Caspian remained noncommittal. "The new presidential election is only a year away. He needs to secure a way out for himself."
