Cyril lay flat on the bed, Alaric sat elegantly on the sofa with his legs crossed, and Julian simply gave up and sprawled out on the recliner.
The assistants attached the brainwave electrodes to their temples and snapped open the blue vials.
"We are ready to begin."
Cyril, Alaric, and Julian all took their vials and downed the liquid in one go.
"Beep—"
The brain currents activated. The timer started.

"Ah~~~"
Vivienne slept beautifully until the sun was high in the sky. Feeling utterly refreshed, she shuffled out of Whitestone Lodge in her turtle slippers.
"Marissa, is there food?"
Marissa poked her head out of the kitchen. "I made Vindrell-style Soup Dumplings. Go wash your hands, I'll bring them out."
Vivienne wandered over to the flower trellis, idly teasing Little Stray. Marissa soon brought out a steaming bamboo steamer of dumplings; the savory scent drifted across the courtyard.
Vivienne took a deep breath, looking toward the gates.
Why was it so quiet today? Did The Three Stooges go take their exams?
Marissa set out the silverware, noticing Vivienne's gaze. She smiled and said, "The three young masters headed to the back pavilion very early this morning. It looks like the competition is fierce. Who do you think will win, Miss Lexton?"
Vivienne shook her head. "I can't guess."
The book never mentioned this.

Her fork paused mid-air above a dumpling.
Going to Solenforth was definitely a major plot point, and that entire arc was triggered by Balthazar Beaufort's death—meaning she and Cyril had kickstarted it together.
Did the Solenforth storyline depend on Cyril? If so, wouldn't he be the guaranteed winner?

"Don't fight me..."
By now, Cyril was already drowning in absolute hellfire.
Suddenly, a faint glimmer of lucidity broke through his dilated pupils.
He felt a fruit knife.
Right! That was it. That was exactly how he had grabbed the knife and killed Balthazar.
He regained a sliver of control. One hand slid upward, cradling the back of her head, while the hand holding the knife pushed deeper. He rolled over, pinning her to the mattress as he deepened the kiss.
An unstoppable, overwhelming dominance crumpled the sheets beneath them.
This was his true, unfiltered desire.
In that moment, more than wanting to kill Balthazar, he had wanted to conquer her.

"Ah~"
Vivienne took a massive bite out of her dumpling, crossing her legs and looking completely relaxed.
So boring. She really needed to figure out a way to speed up the next storyline.
