Cyril maintained his excellent temper. "Chief Montclair, you must be joking."
Vincent had no patience to trade pleasantries with a kid. He cut straight to the chase. "I imagine you already know why I'm here?"
Cyril's eyes remained fixed on his phone. His demeanor was perfectly calm. "I do not."
Vincent instantly dropped his fake smile and signaled his lackeys. One of them stepped back to shut the office door.
Moira kept her head down, staying completely out of the way as she knelt by the table to prepare the tea.
Vincent looked haughty. "There are no outsiders here, so I'll speak plainly. I looked into what happened last night. Those street thugs started it; Jason was just defending himself. It's not a big deal. We're all on the same side here, so I'd appreciate it if you just signed the paperwork so I can take my boy home."
Cyril looked puzzled and turned to Moira.
Moira immediately filled him in. "Sir, Chief Montclair's son was involved in the incident last night."
A vicious brawl had broken out in Merriton City the previous night. It started when a group of wealthy brats aggressively harassed a female singer performing at a club. After being rejected multiple times, the entitled jerks flew into a rage and dragged the girl into a private VIP room. The singer's bandmates, furious, smashed the door down to rescue her, sparking a massive fight.
Initially, the band had the upper hand in numbers. Refusing to swallow their pride, the rich kids called in the club's bouncers and proceeded to beat the twelve young musicians half to death. Had Cyril not coincidentally walked past, those kids might have lost their lives.
Cyril looked enlightened. "There were four or five assailants involved. Which one of them was your son, Chief?"
Irritated by Cyril's tone, Vincent snapped, "You don't need to trouble yourself with minor details like that. Like I said, Jason and his friends weren't at fault. I just need you to take a minute to revise your witness statement."
Moira glanced at Vincent and silently poured him a cup of tea.
Cyril looked distracted as he pressed the green play button on his phone.
"Of course I know him! At Lara Arlington's press conference, Cyril was the only one who cared enough to speak up for women. A gentle, kindhearted guy like him couldn't care less about fame or fortune. He's nothing like the rest of you!!!"
"..."
Seeing Cyril blatantly playing a voice message in his face, Vincent slammed his hand on the table and stood up.
