To prevent Vivienne from finding an excuse to tear into him again, Wesley managed to pull up to the school safely right before the morning bell.
The weather was biting cold outside, but the classroom heater was working overtime. Vivienne shed her two heavy coats, swapping them for a light cardigan, and sat down at her desk, deep in thought.
Where had it all gone wrong?
Even if Cyril knew she had sent that voice memo "by accident" just to suck up to him, the absolute worst-case scenario was that she was trying too hard. There was no way that warranted a ten percent drop, right?
What invisible landmine had she stepped on?
"Morning..."
Mina drifted into the classroom looking like a ghost drained of all life, weakly bumping into Vivienne's desk as she passed.
"I've thought it through. I'm done struggling. I'll just sit here quietly and wait for you to expose me."
Vivienne's train of thought was derailed. She stared at her, utterly speechless. "Did you spend the whole night robbing houses? Why do you look like death?"
Mina let out a hollow, spine-chilling laugh. How could she not look like death?
Thanks to the toxic dose of chicken soup Vivienne had force-fed her yesterday, Mina had returned to the Blackthorne estate with an overwhelming surge of righteousness. It was no exaggeration to say she had mentally rehearsed coming clean at least thirty times. But every single time, right on the verge of speaking, she choked it back down. She had spent the entire night seesawing between the high-stakes mental warfare of confessing versus staying quiet. By the time she snapped out of it, she was emotionally exhausted and half-delirious.
Vivienne waved a hand dismissively. "Who asked you to force it? I told you, do whatever you want."
Mina's head throbbed. She clutched her temples and shuffled to her seat.
A moment later, loud, obnoxious laughter echoed from the hallway. Julianne Whitmore and her pack of lapdogs strolled into the classroom giggling. They were each holding a party invitation, looking incredibly smug.
"Julianne, yours looks totally different from ours. Is that a VIP invite?"
"Obviously. Between Julianne's status and her close relationship with Preston, there's no way it wouldn't be a VIP invite."
"Julianne, I heard last year only the guys got VIP invites!"
Julianne's ear-to-ear grin shattered the second she laid eyes on Vivienne.
This bitch had actually dared to assault her in public. There was no way she was letting that go.
Seeing Julianne's reaction, her lackeys instantly went on high alert. The atmosphere felt exactly like a clueless pig leading a herd of equally clueless pigs right up to the butcher's knife.
Julianne wanted to walk over and pick a fight, but she was terrified Vivienne might genuinely snap again. After weighing her options, she made a beeline for Mina instead.
"Hey. Class is about to start. Where's Sophia?"
Mina didn't give her an inch. "None of your damn business."
"Hmm?" Vivienne glanced back at Mina.
