The younger man chuckled. "You don't need to worry about that. All you have to do is show up when it matters and apply a little brute force."
A chorus of sleazy laughter echoed through the alley.
Five minutes later.
The man navigated his way out of the twisting alleys and stepped onto the glamorous streets of the wealthy district, where every storefront practically reeked of money. He walked straight into a high-end florist.
Julianne Whitmore was sitting on a plush sofa, scrolling frantically through her phone. She had refreshed the message screen countless times, but Preston still hadn't replied.
The man approached her respectfully. "Miss Whitmore."
Swallowing her irritation, Julianne asked coldly, "Is it done?"
He nodded. "All set. Once we lure her into the trap, nothing will trace back to us."
The dark cloud in Julianne's eyes instantly cleared. She pulled a thick stack of cash envelopes from her designer bag. "If everything goes perfectly, I'll double it."
The man flashed a sycophantic smile and bowed as he took the money. "I hope you will continue to look out for me in the future."
"Yeah, yeah, I got it," Julianne waved him off, a look of sheer disgust crossing her face. "Leave now."
"Right away."
He tucked the envelopes into his inner coat pocket and hurried out of the flower shop.
The more Julianne thought about it, the more triumphant she felt. She casually plucked a pink rose from a nearby vase and crushed its petals mercilessly in her fist.
That little bitch, Vivienne. When she first arrived at the academy, she was nothing but a pathetic lapdog following her around. Now she was constantly acting high and mighty. If Julianne didn't teach her a brutal lesson, she'd never be able to sleep at night.
"Bitch. Just you wait. This time, I'm going to take back every single thing you owe me. Hahahaha!"
"What's so funny? You're going to bring the whole shop down with that cackle."
Right as she was relishing her victory, someone abruptly sat down on the sofa across from her.
Julianne choked on her laughter, leaping up from her seat as if she'd been electrocuted. "What are you doing here?"
Just three minutes ago, Cyril Ravenshire had forwarded her a complete dossier on Rowena Blackthorne.
Seventeen years ago, the woman had smuggled herself into Stormhollow Deepwater Port. A year later, she gave birth to a baby girl at St. Marian's Hospital. The records indicated that Rowena couldn't afford the medical bills and had fled the hospital in the dead of night right after the delivery.
After escaping, she vanished without a trace, only to reappear a year later.
Interestingly, she suddenly went from an undocumented immigrant to a registered resident, living under the name Rowena Blackthorne.
The files also mentioned that Rowena had lived in The Old Town Slums with her daughter for sixteen years, surviving entirely on her gambling habits.
Every month, a fixed sum was deposited into her bank account. The amounts varied, but what truly shocked Vivienne was the financial trail. Over sixteen years, passing through hundreds of dummy accounts, the ultimate source of the funds traced straight back to the Whitmore family.
Piecing it all together, Vivienne suddenly realized she might have stumbled onto a massive conspiracy. The entire switched at birth plotline was likely a meticulously orchestrated murder trap.
If that was true, she wouldn't have time to wait for Mina Blackthorne to slowly redeem Isolde.
