"Phew! She finally hung up."
Vivienne tossed her phone aside, leaning back on the sofa. She glanced at Aurelia and spoke up. "Did you come looking for me because of something specific?"
Aurelia nodded, detailing the entire power struggle between the Blackthorne and Whitmore families over the past few days.
"The Blackthornes and the Whitmores have completely torn at each other's throats now. I heard the Whitmores are constantly trying to win over the Everhart family. But the Everhart patriarch is an expert at sitting back and watching the tigers fight. If the Whitmores want to persuade them, it's going to cost them dearly."
Logically, Aurelia shouldn't have known this information unless she went out of her way to dig for it. But why would she do that?
Vivienne already had an answer in her heart. After a moment of thought, she said, "I haven't properly thanked you for handling Julianne."
"What's there to thank me for?" Aurelia said. "Compared to how much you've helped me, this is nothing."
Vivienne felt a sudden, strange flutter in her chest.
Aurelia's eyes were sincere. "I know you might not be able to trust me the way you trust Bianca, and I understand that. But whether you believe me or not, what I told you that day at Vellmont Lodge was from the bottom of my heart. I truly consider you a friend I would die for."
"I like to think I understand you well enough. Mina went through something so massive, yet you didn't consult your family and relied solely on your own power to help her. I figured there had to be a hidden reason behind it. Since it's inconvenient for you, I can do the legwork. Mina is backed by the Blackthornes, so I thought if I figured out their situation, I could help you."
"However, my capabilities are limited right now. Even though my dad doesn't keep his guard up around me, core intel isn't something I can just grab casually. To be honest, a lot of this I pieced together and analyzed in secret."
Worried that her explanation might make her sound less credible, Aurelia quickly added, "Don't worry, I am absolutely confident in my analysis. You can trust me."
In that moment, Vivienne realized what that strange flutter in her chest was. It was warmth.
She looked at the metaphorical label above Aurelia's head and spoke with utmost sincerity. "Lia, thank you."
But now, she wanted to live differently. It would be better for the Blackthornes, for Edmund, for her parents, and even for herself.
With the conversation reaching its end, Mina pushed open the study door and walked out.
Theron watched her brisk footsteps, a whirlwind of mixed emotions settling in his chest. The little girl had grown up after all.
He felt reluctant to leave, but Edmund was still waiting for him to report back.
Theron walked into the living room to say goodbye to everyone. "I..."
Suddenly, his eyes lit up. "Could I stay and have dinner with everyone?"
