The moment Vivienne stepped back into the waiting room, the electronic voice exploded in her skull like a bomb. Her knees buckled, and she nearly pitched forward, but Mr. Caine reacted instantly and caught her arm.

"Miss Lexton, are you alright?"

Vivienne steadied herself against a chair and slowly sat down, forcing her expression to remain neutral. "I'm fine. Just a headache from the loud noise."

"Loud noise?" Mr. Caine glanced around the quiet room, confused. Where was the loud noise? He found it odd—she had just slaughtered the prosecution in the courtroom without blinking, but the second she was off the stage, she looked ready to collapse.

Still, her performance out there had been nothing short of breathtaking.

Mr. Caine turned and poured her a cup of warm water. "Here, have some water."

"Thank you." Vivienne took the cup, but her mind was racing. The Gate of Narrative was reacting violently. There had to be a reason.

Maybe she had actually stumbled upon a way to rewrite the destined deaths of her grandfather and Talia.

A sudden realization struck her. She forced the system's voice back into the depths of her mind and looked up at Mr. Caine.

"Mr. Caine, how do you think I did out there? Do you think the judge and jury bought it?"

"You were incredible. I'm almost ashamed to say it, but no lawyer in the country could have delivered the emotional impact you just did."

Before today, Mr. Caine had viewed Vivienne as a reckless kid running on pure adrenaline. But after that defense, his perspective had shifted completely.

Frederick Whitmore was so furious his chest seized. He snapped his expensive wooden pipe clean in half.

To orchestrate this lethal blow against the Ravenshires, a massive alliance of powerful families had mobilized. Now that they had missed their shot, the Ravenshires would undoubtedly retaliate. Spies would be exposed, hidden assets burned. Their future operations had just become infinitely more dangerous.

Vivienne Lexton.

It was that brat again.

Three years ago, if she hadn't hidden in that cabinet and ambushed him, the Whitmores wouldn't have prematurely severed ties with the Ravenshires in the first place.

Staring at the girl's arrogant, triumphant smile on the screen, Frederick's eyes darkened with venom.

Just as the entire country waited anxiously for the verdict, The International News Channel abruptly cut away for a massive breaking story.
