Chaos Girl Rewrites the Script novel Chapter 695

The summer sun cast a brilliant, iridescent glow over Obsidian Estate, while the koi fish dozed lazily beneath the lily pads in the courtyard pond. Low, intermittent voices drifted from the Main Hall.

Vivienne Lexton peered through the intricate latticework of the windows. After lingering in the courtyard for a long moment, she feigned nonchalance and strolled into the main compound. "Grandpa!"

Police Chief Caldwell, who had been respectfully reporting, was abruptly interrupted but showed no trace of annoyance. He stood up with an eager smile. "Ah, Miss Lexton."

Two years ago, the Whitmore family's empire had nearly collapsed. Just as their reputation was about to be irreparably shattered, news broke that their second son had committed suicide out of fear of prosecution. Damien Whitmore had left behind a confession admitting to treason, debauchery, and a litany of other crimes. With his death, the slate was wiped clean, allowing the Whitmores to barely retain their foundation. Still, their prestige was ruined. Gideon Whitmore's political career took a massive hit, demoted from Stormhollow's Chief of Police to the Mayor of the Eastbay District. Ultimately, the Whitmore family fell from their throne as one of the Big Four, dropping even below the rising new-money factions like the Cavanaughs.

As for Police Chief Caldwell, he was a protégé of Dorian Ravenshire, single-handedly elevated to his current position by the Ravenshire family.

Vivienne didn't know Chief Caldwell from Adam, but she had grown much smoother in her social maneuverings. One glance was all it took to grasp the situation. Feigning innocent curiosity, she tilted her head. "Well, if it isn't the chief of police. What brings you to Obsidian Estate? Did someone in our family break the law?"

"You must be joking, Miss Lexton," Caldwell replied, his heart skipping a beat as he quickly glanced at Caspian Ravenshire. Seeing that the patriarch wasn't angry, he let out a covert sigh of relief. This girl was exactly as the rumors described—an absolute wild card who brought trouble to anyone she crossed.

Caspian saw right through Vivienne's deliberate mischief. He offered a fond, chiding smile. "Mind your manners. Chief Caldwell is here on official business. Have a seat and behave."

Caldwell's eye twitched slightly. He offered a deferential smile to Caspian. "You're too kind, sir. Last night's incident involves the Solenforth royal family. Minister Everhart was pushing hard and issued an overnight dispatch order. Normally, this wouldn't be my place to intervene, but the men under me lack tact. If they had accidentally offended you or the young ladies, it would have been a disaster. I had no choice but to make the trip myself."
