The bottom of the lake was pitch black. Visibility was practically zero. When the silhouette pressed against her, Vivienne Lexton was caught completely off guard, momentarily forgetting to struggle.
Cyril Ravenshire's eyelids were half-lowered, the churning emotion in his eyes sparkling brighter than sunlight dancing on the water's surface.
He threaded his fingers through her floating hair. Before Vivienne could react, he lowered his head and captured the lips he had been longing for.
The freezing water muted the world. Vision and hearing failed simultaneously, leaving the sense of touch infinitely magnified.
Cyril had only intended to share a breath of air, but her lips were softer than he had imagined. A fleeting brush was not enough to quench his thirst; instead, it awakened a far deeper, ravenous desire.
He wanted more.
He shifted his position, his grip tightening as his fingers tangled in her loose hair, forcing Vivienne to tilt her head up. His other hand cupped her cheek, his teeth grazing her soft lower lip before he effortlessly deepened the kiss.
[Ding—]

Vivienne gasped inwardly.
Her entire body went rigid, and she shook her head frantically, desperate to break free from his hold.
Anticipating her resistance, Cyril held her face firmly in place.
He was a reckless invader, coveting everything, tearing into her defenses and stealing the very breath from her lungs.
The freezing lake water seeped in through the slivers of space between their parted lips, sending a flurry of bubbles spiraling toward the surface.
Speechless.
What a jerk.
Vivienne changed her strategy. She deliberately relaxed her body and leaned into him. The moment Cyril's guard dropped, she brought her knee up and aimed a ruthless kick right between his legs.
A strange glint flashed in Cyril's eyes. It was difficult to exert full force underwater, so Vivienne's kick did no real damage. Instead, it only fueled his destructive urge.
