Just as she was about to pull herself onto the bank, someone grabbed her ankle.
Was he never going to stop?
Gritting her teeth, she blindly grabbed a handful of mud from the edge of the lake and hurled it behind her.
Cyril dodged, and the mud grazed past his ear, splashing harmlessly into the water. Vivienne kicked at his shoulder, and Cyril, the corners of his eyes turning red, slowly let go.
Vivienne scrambled up the bank on her hands and knees. She scooped up another handful of mud. Just as Cyril was about to duck, she yelled fiercely, "Don't move."
Cyril froze.
She took aim and threw. The mud hit him squarely in the face with a loud splat.
The torrential rain washed half of the dirt away almost instantly.
Cyril raised his hand to wipe his face.
"Don't wipe it," Vivienne ordered.
Cyril's fingers halted mid-air.
Framed by the flashes of lightning and rolls of thunder, the two stared at each other through the raging storm.
"I..." Just as he opened his mouth, a sharp sting flared at the corner of his lip. Cyril's gaze flickered, and his voice went hoarse. "I didn't know it was you underwater. I was drowning."
Vivienne's lips twitched.
He didn't know? If it hadn't been for the endless string of 999s echoing in her head, she might have actually believed him.
How could Cyril possibly know she had a cheat system in her head? Right now, his mind was completely consumed by her fierce retaliation at the end.
His heart was racing erratically. Not knowing where to look, he feigned indifference. "What about you? Did you know it was me?"
Vivienne paused for a second before turning defensive. "Of course I didn't! I thought..."
