Alaric suddenly felt incredibly hot. His eyes involuntarily drifted back to the daybed. Afraid she would notice, he'd take a quick glance and then immediately look away, repeating the agonizing cycle over and over again.
Finally, Vivienne couldn't take it anymore. She looked up, her luminous skin glowing like warm porcelain in the sunlight. "Alaric, what exactly are you sneaking looks at?"
Alaric mentally short-circuited.
The siren who had carved out his heart was sitting right there, innocently asking him, Is this your heart?
Looking into her clear, beautiful eyes, a completely unhinged thought screamed in Alaric's mind.
Tell her, yes, this is your heart.
Ask her if she wants to devour it.
"I..." He uneasily folded his hands, his fingers subconsciously grazing the Mother's Red Cord Bracelet on his wrist. "I..."
Outside, Wesley's dead-fish eyes suddenly practically shot laser beams. He pressed his ear flat against the window frame. Is our rookie finally going to make a move?!
"I'm back!!!"
Mina hollered at the top of her lungs, panting heavily as she shoved two suitcases into the study.
Instantly, a gust of hot, stifling air blew through the window.
Crouched outside, Wesley felt a violent urge to drag Mina out and beat her senseless.
Vivienne's attention was immediately diverted. "Why are you pushing those yourself? Why didn't you ask the staff for help?"
"It's fine," Mina waved a hand dismissively. "I'm used to doing things myself."
Alaric lowered his head, meticulously rearranging his pens and inkstone that were already perfectly aligned.
Mina had a massive favor to ask, so her smile never wavered. "Alaric, these are the things we prepared."
Alaric shot Vivienne a look. "Didn't you say these were for me?"
The two suitcases Mina had hauled in—one plastered with stickers and the other covered in plush keychains—were aggressively, undeniably meant for a girl.
What the hell?
Vivienne actually saw a flicker of resentment in the eyes of the icy aristocrat. Since when did the Ice Prince learn how to pout?
