Chaos Girl Rewrites the Script novel Chapter 821

Cedric hesitated for a fraction of a second before shaking his head.

"She didn't. Her family did."

"Her family?" Vivienne gripped the armrests of her wheelchair, looking crestfallen.

Cedric explained, "When Marissa first came to the Estate, she was very young. Her family was in a bad spot, and the Patriarch took pity on her and gave her a job. A few days ago, her young niece came to the Estate looking for her. I noticed the child was covered in bruises and had someone look into it. We found out Marissa's brother was set up at an underground casino. He racked up a massive gambling debt and was planning to sell his daughter. The girl ran away to find Marissa for help."

Alaric glanced at Vivienne and asked calmly, "Who set up the trap?"

Surprised that Alaric cared about such a trivial matter, Cedric quickly replied, "The casino operators. Uncle Benedict is already investigating, and we should have answers soon."

Caspian patted Vivienne's hand gently, comforting her. "Marissa has been devoted to you these past five years, and I've already sent people to handle her family's mess. But... she cannot stay. Grandpa will find someone just as dedicated to take care of you."

Vivienne forced a weak smile. "I understand."

By forcing through the military reform bill, the Ravenshire family had effectively declared war on the Garland family and several other powerful factions. At a critical juncture like this, the family couldn't afford a single misstep.

Even the most favored grandchild had to know her limits. Before, Vivienne had merely danced on the edge of the family's rules, which was why no one could ever use her actions against her.

But if she knowingly kept a vulnerability like Marissa around, even if Caspian agreed, it would undoubtedly trigger immense backlash from the other branches of the family.

It seemed someone was already eager to make their move against her.

Caspian looked deeply relieved. "Once this blows over, if you still insist on having Marissa, Grandpa will bring her back."

For a family patriarch, this was an astonishing concession.

Vivienne nodded. "Grandpa, when is she leaving?"

"The sooner the better. I've already had Cedric arrange a car down the mountain."
