Serena pushed Isabella away and shot a sharp look at her styling assistant. "Take her to the dressing room and fix her makeup."
Just as Serena turned to leave, Isabella grabbed a handful of her dress.
"Mom... I want to change my clothes."
"What is taking so long?" Stanford's impatient voice echoed from the hall.
Serena glanced back at Isabella, hesitating for a split second before peeling her daughter's fingers off the fabric. "Isabella, listen to me. I'm doing this for your own good."
Isabella stared down at her empty hands and let out a broken, hollow laugh.

Ten minutes later, the delayed banquet finally commenced.
Dozens of Garland family members filled the room, while Serena's side consisted solely of herself and Isabella. They called it a pre-wedding dinner to "get to know each other," but in reality, it was a thinly veiled interrogation. The entire family was sizing them up.
In the face of such a massive power imbalance, there was no fairness or respect to be found. Serena had prepared for this. No matter how much they humiliated her, she maintained the persona of a fragile, devoted woman entirely reliant on Stanford. Stanford, naturally, soaked up the ego boost.
Charlotte, sensing Serena was a master manipulator, immediately pivoted her crosshairs onto Isabella. "I hear you have two daughters?"
Isabella kept her head bowed, remaining silent. She knew she had no right to speak here.
"Yes." Serena smiled and nodded, discreetly tugging at Isabella's arm.
Isabella forced her head up. "Hello."
Charlotte offered a smile dripping with underlying malice. "She's quite pretty. And that dress... it certainly suits her."
Isabella stiffened. She didn't know why, but when the woman mentioned the dress, she felt a suffocating wave of hostility.
Right then, a group of middle-aged men in sharp suits rushed into the hall.
