The following day was bathed in brilliant sunlight. Koi fish danced playfully beneath the lotus leaves, painting a picture of perfect tranquility at the Obsidian Estate.
Cedric hurried along the corridor. Spotting the open gates of Vellmont Lodge from a distance, he picked up his pace. The moment he stepped into the courtyard, he saw Talia standing beneath the trellis, teasing a turtle.
He paused in surprise before putting on a polite smile and approaching. "Ms. Talia, you're here as well?"
Talia glanced up at him. "Cedric, you're here quite early."
Within the Obsidian Estate, only Talia addressed Cedric with such courtesy. He nodded respectfully. "The Garland family has sent a representative. The Patriarch has invited Ms. Lexton to the Main Hall for a conversation."
"What? The Garlands actually had the nerve to show up?"
Bianca was the first to storm out of the inner parlor, practically vibrating with hostility. "How dare they? I want to see exactly which shameless bastard showed up!"
"..." Cedric cleared his throat, glancing toward the Main Hall. "Miss Bianca, where is Ms. Lexton?"
"Right here," Vivienne called out, wheeling herself out of the ground-floor art studio.
"Ms. Lexton, Council Speaker Kenyon is here," Cedric explained. "He specifically asked for you. The Patriarch requests your presence for a chat."
"Understood," Vivienne replied, looking unnervingly calm.
Leland only had one son, Kael, who had been born in his later years. He prized the boy above his own life.
Yesterday, she had nearly sent the Garland family's precious heir straight to the afterlife. It was only natural they would come knocking.
However, if she had the nerve to do it, she certainly wasn't afraid of the fallout. She held Kael's darkest secret in her hands. She highly doubted the Garland family would dare touch her.
"Hold on." Talia stepped out from beneath the trellis. "I'm coming with you."
Bianca immediately grabbed the handles of the wheelchair. "I'm going too."
Cedric had no authority to object. He simply lowered his head and stepped aside.
Vivienne cast a brief, cool glance at Cedric before smiling and rolling out of Vellmont Lodge.
"Cedric, what exactly did the Garland representative say to Caspian?"
Cedric shook his head. "Nothing in particular. He simply stated he wished to see Ms. Lexton."
