Elise quickly covered her mouth, realizing some things were better left unsaid. She gave an awkward laugh. “Miss Lexton, you should get some sleep. I’ll be going now.”
Vivienne nodded.
Elise had only taken a few steps when she seemed to remember something and turned back.
“Oh, my memory is terrible. Miss Lexton, I took back that pesticide you asked for this morning. Cedric said it’s highly toxic and is rarely used unless there’s a major infestation. I’ve already reported to Elliot that the two Daisy roses in the courtyard have spider mites and thrips. They’ll come tomorrow with the right treatment.”
Vivienne paused as if just remembering the matter. She patted her chest in mock fear. “Really? I just saw online that it was effective. I had no idea it was so dangerous. Well, as long as it’s handled. Those two Daisy roses are mother plants that Grandfather transplanted from the Ravelin royal family. I was just panicking and grasping at straws because I was afraid something would happen to them. I’m sorry, Elise.”
“No, no!” Elise quickly waved her hands. “That’s not what I meant at all! Mr. Ravenshire would be so happy to know how much you care. I only said something because I was worried you didn’t know and might accidentally hurt yourself.”
Vivienne clasped her hands to her chest, her face a mask of self-reproach. “I’m such an idiot. I can’t even do something this simple right. Grandfather will probably be so disappointed in me if he finds out.”
“Hey!” Seeing Vivienne on the verge of tears, the kindly woman felt her heart ache. She was just a child trying to help her grandfather get rid of some pests. What had she done wrong?
“Don’t you worry, miss. I didn’t even tell Cedric. He thinks it was my idea. And he didn’t blame me since I was injured. He just instructed the logistics team that this kind of thing must be strictly forbidden in the future.”
Vivienne nodded, her face full of gratitude. “Thank you, Elise. You’re so kind. I’ll tell Grandfather tomorrow to give you a reward.”
Elise waved her hands. “There’s no need for that, miss. It was just a small…”
“I’ll have Grandfather give you a bonus,” Vivienne interrupted. “How about a bonus equal to a year’s salary?”
Elise’s fingers suddenly twitched. If the young miss put it that way, it wasn’t entirely out of the question.
Vivienne watched the twitching fingers, her captivating eyes smiling sweetly. “Three years? Alright! Three years it is!”

Vivienne let out an unsatisfied *tsk*. No wonder there was no news about the Whitmores. The plot had been course-corrected.

Vivienne was speechless.
