Chase Me Alpha (Daria and Caleb) novel Chapter 122

Chapter 122

Daria’s POV

The next afternoon in the dungeon brought a lot more chill Autumn was arriving fast, and with it, a certain stillness in the air

I swallowed as much of the food as I could: this time it was a salad and a piece of meat. The salad was barely that, with the pieces of stalks and ends of leaves in the plate. I could have sworn they were made from leftovers. But it was better than nothing, and didn’t appear poisonous

The numbness had faded tk a desire for something to change. I woke up earlier, trying to map out the dungeon and the pack’s layout with my mind’s eye. A lot must have changed, but was sure that if given the chance. I would still be able to take Eric and Sabrina out of here.

I noticed Sabrina had finished her meal, and she still looked pale and gaunt. It worried me I cut the meat in my bowl into two and ate the smaller part. Then I shifted, reaching my hand out through the bars towards her cell. If she stretched far enough, she would be able to grab the bowl from my hand.

“Here.” I said softly, my eyes looking over her. “You need to eat more. Conserve your strength.”

She shook her head adamantly

“I’m fine, really,” she insisted, but then her stomach growled loudly Even Eric stared at her, his brows rising in concern. Sabrina’s face flushed out of embarrassment, and she pressed her lips together

“Brina, take the food. I’ll survive.” I told her in a much firmer to “How do you feel?” I asked.

She finally gave up, and reached her hand out. My arm was already feeling the strain by the time that she managed to grab the bowl’s edge and tug it towards her cell.

“A little better,” she murmured. “You wouldn’t believe I was puking my lungs out this morning”

That was what I had woken up to this morning, shivering and confused.

My brows furrowed with concern still. It was strange; Sabrina wasn’t the type to be this sick. What might have caused it?

My eyes roved over her as I watched her devour the rest of my meal like she hadn’t eaten a thing before.

If I didn’t know any better….

I stopped myself from thinking towards that line, although suspicions rose.

“Daria.” Eric sighed. “You have to take care of yourself too. Jamal seems to be planning something.”

I agreed with him, “You’re right.”

The sounds of a door creaking made us all fall silent. Then a loud voice echoed in the air.

“I don’t need an escort, you dummies. Stay behind.”

That voice. It jolted me into alertness, and it had the same effect on Sabrina and Eric as well.

It couldn’t be.

My mind raced.

“What the hell?” Sabrina was the one to voice out her shock as Felicia came into view. She wore an exquisite gown, dressed to the nines from head to toe. And a sneering smile was pasted on her face.

“Shut your mouth,” Felicia snapped, her eyes flickering to Sabrina. But it was only for a second before she faced me. The satisfaction was clear in her posture, her face glowing.

It was then that realization struck.

“You…” I spoke, low and steady. “You’re one of them.”

It made so much sense, I wondered why I hadn’t thought of it earlier. Caleb had mentioned Elder Talen had acted against the pack in some way. And there had been many others like him Why not her?

“Don’t sully my name like that, you bitch,” Felicia’s voice cracked like a whip in the dingy dungeon. “Im not ‘one of them. I’m not even close. I’m second only to Jamal.”

Second only?

I recalled what Jamal had said… about having a mate.

“You’re his mate, aren’t you?” I stood, gripping the bars with anger boiling in my gut, spreading through my body like a raging wildfire came alive. “You betrayed Caleb!”

“He betrayed me first!” She laughed, like I’d just told the world’s funniest joke. “He dared betray me with you!”

“Do you know what you’ve done?!” I yelled at her, aching to shift and ruin this woman. If I could get my hands on her I’d kill her. I’d make sure she regretted everything she had done!

“Do you know what HE did to ME?! I had him! I was his! Caleb CHOSE me! And then you left,” she snorted, flipping her hair. Her eyes narrowed on me with a look of hatred so deep. “When you left, he suddenly changed. Every day he’d search for you, like you suddenly meant so much to him. He forgot what he promised me, to make me Luna of the Wisteria Pack. To keep me by his side. He betrayed me. And then he started to ignore me. Do you know how many times I had to threaten those little lovers of his to stay away?!”

“Madam, the Alpha has instructed that we not touch her. She is to be kept alive for now.

Felicia didn’t like that answer and she delivered a sharp slap to the guard that said that.

“Fools! I am the Luna of the Pack!” She panted, her chest heaving.

I shook, laughter bubbling up, wheezing and broken. Tears prickled my eyes, as I thought of how I’d left Caleb. And it was all because of her! She had lied to everyone!

Guilt welled up in me, and I said, “You won’t win. Your plans won’t work. If the Goddess has eyes, you will not win!”

“Oh, you little slut, I’ve already won!” Felicia’s anger cooled as she cackled. “Jamal will be the one to unite the Red Vale and Wisteria pack. He will make it ours! I will be the Luna only fools like you can dream of. The Luna of the Enders Pack has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? And when that happens… I will be the one to execute you personally.”

She turned around and stormed out in a flurry, followed by the guards. Her laughter grew maniacal, before it faded into the distance. I shook, shoulders trembling. Closing my eyes I took in deep breaths, falling into a meditative state, exhaling slowly. Around me, Sabrina continued to curse Felicia’s name while Eric stayed silent.

“Sabrina, it’s okay,” I cut her off as she wasn’t in the mood to stop anytime soon. She paused, looking sideways to meet my gaze. “We’re leaving this place. We have to warn Caleb, and get to Killian as soon as possible.”

Eric asked, “How do you intend we do that?” He didn’t sound doubtful, only curious.

I moved towards the bars of my cell and crouched low, reaching for a tiny object. Once I’d grabbed it I smiled and raised it up in the light.

A hairpin.

In the fight, the damned bitch hadn’t noticed that she was missing something, and the guards were too drawn in the chaos to bother.

“My skills might be rusty,” I said softly. “But I’m pretty sure I can pick it back up in a second.”

Sabrina leapt to her feet, a broad smile on her face.

“Brilliant,” Eric praised. His eyes gleamed with determination now.

I nodded at both of them.

Tonight, I told myself.

By tonight, we would be out of here.
